the suck poster is back

couple things

yeah duh if you are zoned for Wilson you will prob stay but even then many people opt out for privates

DC schoos suck just look at the test scores and graduation rates

If you take out the Wilson pyramid and the rich enclave on capitol hill and their elementary school its basically third world test scores

I mean that third grade test the passing rate is what 20% pathetic

Sure there are some decent elementary schools in pockets. I actually want more schools to succeed but its a really tough road to climb

Anybody with means OUTSIDE wilson pyramid is leaving or going private especially post elementary school and yeah Basics and a couple other options but its not a whole lot

It's BASIS, not Basics.

What does that mean?

What you hear is the cry of the parent whose private school tuition payment is due.

PP, what makes you assert that DC public schools such and always will? No need to convince me that most such schools do in fact suck, really suck. That said, I've been pleasantly surprised by how good my little kids' DCPS elementary school is proving, EotP no less. The school's "specials"--art, music, science, PE, Spanish--are better than expected, along with well-thought-out monthly field trips and extra-curriculars. And I'm a tough customer (Ivy Leaguer, lawyer).

Have you been confronted with school safety issues yet? --> Are you certain? Is your kid being challenged, or just staring at the ceiling?

Oh give me a break. Our school is a little over 10% FARMs and 2/3 white. PTA pays a "behavioral tech" to ensure decent playground management and behavior in general. Kids are absolutely challenged and with PTA-financed pullout groups (school raises a great deal of dough to pay classroom aides) ahead, we expect that to remain the case. We're hardly alone - other DCPS ES are similar in 2016. School isn't perfect, but kids are very happy, we supplement at home (mainly teaching social studies, public speaking and a foreign language) and lower elementary grades aren't worth 30K a year per kid at privates to us.

^^^^ Where are you, Janney? We're talking about issues with the majority of the city. Take off your snowflake blinders.

Is this Ross? No other EOTP school fits this description. One Capitol Hill school does: Brent. These are the only two that aren't WOTP. So your experience is not representative of EOTP schools.

Right, not representative, whatever that means. I hear many good things about various EotP DCPS elementary schools/programs these days, especially Maury, Tyler Spanish Immersion, Peabody, SWS and Ludlow-Taylor in the lower grades. Every parent isn't planning ahead to the middle school stage yet. We may not even live in DC by then. For now, we'll take the good we can get without breaking the bank.

^^^ Ms. "Right", Peabody only goes through K. What's your elementary option? Yeah, right.

I always wonder if the people who blindly trust the DC lottery with the education of their children also trust the DC lottery for the well being of their retirement? Both seem irresponsible and naive to me even if if a few make it work. What serious things to leave to chance so you can walk to get a drink after work and people watch hipsters after work.
Anonymous
I seriously wonder what kind of miserable harpy sits around bashing poor people and questioning other people's school choices. I don't wonder often, or for long, because such a person isn't particularly interesting, but sometimes I do wonder
