"DC public schools suck and will always suck" What does that mean?
What you hear is the cry of the parent whose private school tuition payment is due.
+ 1
PP, what makes you assert that DC public schools such and always will? No need to convince me that most such schools do in fact suck, really suck. That said, I've been pleasantly surprised by how good my little kids' DCPS elementary school is proving, EotP no less. The school's "specials"--art, music, science, PE, Spanish--are better than expected, along with well-thought-out monthly field trips and extra-curriculars. And I'm a tough customer (Ivy Leaguer, lawyer).
Have you been confronted with school safety issues yet? --> Are you certain? Is your kid being challenged, or just staring at the ceiling?
Oh give me a break. Our school is a little over 10% FARMs and 2/3 white. PTA pays a "behavioral tech" to ensure decent playground management and behavior in general. Kids are absolutely challenged and with PTA-financed pullout groups (school raises a great deal of dough to pay classroom aides) ahead, we expect that to remain the case. We're hardly alone - other DCPS ES are similar in 2016. School isn't perfect, but kids are very happy, we supplement at home (mainly teaching social studies, public speaking and a foreign language) and lower elementary grades aren't worth 30K a year per kid at privates to us.
Is this Ross? No other EOTP school fits this description. One Capitol Hill school does: Brent. These are the only two that aren't WOTP. So your experience is not representative of EOTP schools.
