| I live in a SFH and if either of my neighbors said something about my front and rear porch light being on at night I'd think they were crazy and just ignore it. What's next, are they going to tell you they don't like the smell from you grilling food outside, or the way you park your cars in your driveway. Unless you have serious security flood lights illuminating the entire yard like a prison compound I don't accept the light pollution BS. Some crazy a$$ people on DCUM. |
I hope karma bites you in the ass and you end up living next door to someone with a massive media room. |
We live in DC and we have motion lights for the trash area in the alley. People hang out there and like to do drugs. The lights we installed are enough to discourage people from loitering. That said - our lights are certainly not flood lights, they're not on all night, and they're not shining into anyone's windows. |
| Contrary to all the posts abut criminals not caring about light - you're simply wrong! real criminals (not Amazon delivery thieves) will always go for a poorly lit back door or side door over a well lit front/rear door/window. Just ask your local PD. We live next to one and he has told us before that its the easiest and most effective deterrent. |
PP here. I've lived next to just such a person (when I had a TH) and I never once complained to him about it. Even when they bought a piano and started hosting church choir practice every other week. They had their space and I have mine. As long as no ones breaking the law you do as you like - that's how our country works. |
Wow you're obtuse. If your music is so loud that people next door can hear it, then you're infringing on their space. Likewise if you have a flood lamp and you are shining that into their space, you are also infringing on their space. But okay, you're an asshole and you're fine with being an asshole and living next to assholes. You might also be a deaf asshole. Some of us are not. |
Black out curtains won't make you ill. Set your alarm clock and wake up and open the curtains for sunlight in the morning. You're nuts. |
Messing with the circadian rhythm can lead to sleep disorder. You're the worst kind of ignorant/stupid . |
This may be the dumbest suggestion I've ever seen on DCUM, and that's saying something. Yes, the guy breaking into your car is executing a Mission Impossible-style incursion - moving slowly so as to defeat motion sensors. |
Ok, you've called me obtuse and an asshole for not sharing YOUR opinion. I hope your feel better now I love DCUM for the "healthy" debate.
|
Sleep disorder is a health issue that is not helped by a blackout curtain. The blackout curtains may help with the sleep at night, but it still messes with your rhythm and you end up waking up groggy because you don't have the natural light to slowly wake you up. Previous PP is probably a fatass who has no clue what good health feels like. |
| Hah. I'm 6' 5" tall, weigh 250 lb (played college football) and I always laugh when people call each other names on DCUM. Makes me wonder what those same people would say if the conversation was face to face with someone like me. Anonymity brings out peoples true colors. |
What do you call someone who thinks blasting music/sound or light into a neighbor's space (especially at night) is acceptable? That person is called an asshole. Would you prefer the term douchebag? |
call them whatever you like, if they are breaking the law (i.e. a noise violation) call the police, if they aren't then the LAW doesn't consider them to be doing anything wrong |
We're not talking about the law here. You are. And yes, I understand that you can call the police for noise complaints. There's this thing called decency. If you see your neighbor's house getting broken into while they are on vacation, there's no law in most places that obligates you to call the police. But obviously the decent thing to do is to call the police and tell them what you saw. |
