The saddest song of all time

Fast Car by Tracey Chapman. I love the song but didn't really remember the words. When I really listened I was in tears in my office a few months back.

Lots of good ones already listed. I'll add -

Dance with My Father - Luther Vandross
My Immortal - Evenescence
Who Knew - Pink
The Heart of Life - John Meyer -- this one was released right after my brother unexpectedly passed.

I hate to see you cry
Lying there in that position
There's things you need to hear
So turn off your tears
And listen

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No it won't all go the way it should
But I know the heart of life is good

You know, it's nothing new
Bad news never had good timing
Then, circle of your friends
Will defend the silver lining

+1. Her first and best hit.

Songbird by Fleetwood Mac. Heard it at a funeral for a woman who was beaten to death by her husband.

On the Turning Away - pink Floyd (reminds me of my parents divorce although that's not what it's about- topic is even sadder)
Fields of Gold - sting (was on the radio non stop the summer a high school friend of mine died suddenly)

Greensleeves has always made me tear up, even as a child.

Me too. Also, Send in the Clowns.

But this year at a St. Paddy's party, I learned for the first time all the words to Danny Boy and what it was about. No wonder people cry. I did.

I'm so sorry. My heart goes out to you.
