I can't believe no one has mentioned Sandy Denny's "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" It was covered and made popular by Judy Collins.
And also Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now (and Little Green) mentioned by someone earlier. Also, Long Long Time by Linda Ronstadt. |
| Haven't read the entire thread yet but has anyone mentioned The Greatest by Cat Power? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT9qM99l9Yk |

How Can I Help You to Say Goodbye- Patty Loveless |

I agree with those who nominated "tears in heaven" by Clapton. What could be sadder than the death of a child?
Jolene by Parton is a pretty good "also ran". I also feel melancholy (but not crying-sad) listening to "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. "Space Oddity" by Bowie makes me melancholy as well. |
Oh, ya! Puff! I'm sobbing by the end of it! |
| Zac Brown Band - Bittersweet. Had to pull over at a rest stop the first time I heard it because I was sobbing so hard. |
