Anonymous wrote:Hello - We are interested in looking into membership at Chevy Chase Club, which I understand is a very selective club. If anyone has any insight into the process, current dues & fees, etc., it would be appreciated. We would be interested in the pool / social (not golf) membership, and we are a married couple under 35 (I've heard some clubs give discounted membership rates to younger couples).

Thanks!

If you have to ask. You're not eligible. A member, or members, have to nominate you for membership and you asking a member to sponsor you is simply not done. CCCC is for old Washingtonians and legacy memberships, government dignitaries, e.g. US Senators, cabinet members.

What is CCCC?

At CCC your main sponsors (you need a sponsor and a seconder) do all leg work to get your other letters together (8 more for applicant and 6 for spouse). In theory, you are not supposed to be involved at all and definitely are not supposed to ask anyone to write for you.

If you don’t know enough people, your sponsor will probably host a party to introduce you around. But you’ll need to cultivate friendships with those people - the club screens out letters from people who barely know you or who only know you through work, and it is VERY common for letters not to be accepted for those reasons. The letter writers all have to say that they have been to your home and you have been to their home, to make sure they know you socially. For applicants who don’t have a big network, it can require some time/energy.

If he works for Dewey, Patton Boggs or QGA you're more likely to get in than if he works for some leftist outfit.

This did not age well. Dewey met an inglorious end 2 years after this post, including jail time for some of its leaders. Patton Boggs was forced to merge and not sure how much of it is really left. QGA imploded in 2017. Maybe these people spent too much time at the club and not enough time at work?

Thank you for bumping this thread with this bit of news.

Is there a wait list for membership once you have a sponsor?
We have 3 kids at Cathedral schools and half their friends (and ours at school) are members. I spend a good deal of my life dropping off my kids there. We have good (20 year) friends who I'm sure would sponsor us if asked and I could come up with 14 additional names fairly easily (people whose homes we've been to, etc).
Is there a current wait? I don't think I'm really interested but I've grown a little curious.

Also, when I was growing up and friends’ families belonged there it was a good source of activities and a social life for the kids and teens. So, that is the plus side. People there are extremely conservative, and as far as I could hear politics are constantly discussed, even on the tennis courts and ice rink. If you are even a moderate Republican, it would be awkward.

Are you saying the members are typically Trump supporters?

We did belong to a CC when our kids were younger. It was great to be able to drop them off for golf or tennis. They played both very well and have taken their game into adult life.
We chose not to joint a club once the kids were launched. It’s the same people over and over and this makes social gatherings boring. It’s nice to go for dinner and have the staff know you and know what you like. But the menu is rarely changed and not intetesting.
At this point in our life we want to branch out more and try new things.

Why not use all that money for club dues to fund some charities!?!?

A few things:
Are you Jewish? You won’t get in unless you are Republican and even Jewish applicants have a very low percentage of being admitted.

I have heard from creditable sources that a few families in current senior class at STA were involved with blackballing not one but TWO fellow Jewish families.

Lastly it has a reputation of being the least inclusive and kind club and others such as Congressional are more prestigious but have a more open vibe.

Fellow families who were Jewish or a couple Jewish families screwed over other Jewish families?

More importantly, do you have a house? A car? Do your kids wear warm clothes? Do you have a dog that eats food? Do you travel? How dare you own and do all that instead of giving all your worldly goods and money to the downtrodden! Go ahead and make your own self downtrodden for their sake! Isn’t that the right thing to do??
