Membership at Chevy Chase Club

We have friends who have offered to sponsor us, but we aren't comfortable asking and though we could afford the numbers I've seen referenced upthread, I'd like to have a more concrete idea before we start the process. Also, we are big tennis players, but not particularly interested in golf. Have heard there's no non-golf membership option. Can anyone confirm?

Initiation is 100k and must be paid all at once, annual dues are around 14k. No non-golf membership.

The members tend to not discuss politics without first gently measuring the views of the person they are talking to. No one is interested in getting into a political duel while there. It's a time for friendship and relaxation. I'm a member and a moderate Democrat. One of my long time golfing friends is as liberal as anyone I know. Yet there are sure to be plenty of Republicans playing with us side by side, having a pleasant lunch or dunner with us, etc. And that's the way it should be.

Yes, please continue to have pleasant lunches and golf dates with republicans who support the trampling of civil rights and abortion, put kids in cages, and destroy the environment, and continue to support trump and his thuggery

Our dear friends have asked us to join the club and have to be our sponsors. We are new to the area so don't know many people here. Generally do our main sponsors find the folks who will write letters for us and a co-sponsor or do we have to do that?

If he works for Dewey, Patton Boggs or QGA you're more likely to get in than if he works for some leftist outfit.

This did not age well. Dewey met an inglorious end 2 years after this post, including jail time for some of its leaders. Patton Boggs was forced to merge and not sure how much of it is really left. QGA imploded in 2017. Maybe these people spent too much time at the club and not enough time at work?

If anyone has any insight into the process, current dues & fees, etc., it would be appreciated. We would be interested in the pool / social (not golf) membership, and we are a married couple under 35 (I've heard some clubs give discounted membership rates to younger couples).

Thanks!

If you have to ask. You're not eligible. A member, or members, have to nominate you for membership and you asking a member to sponsor you is simply not done. CCCC is for old Washingtonians and legacy memberships, government dignitaries, e.g. US Senators, cabinet members.

Let’s not hype it up too much - new members are friends with current members and have the money/interest to join. That’s it.

This. My friends are members and they are just regular successful lawyers with 1-2 generation money and no name.

Wow! And this why I would never join your club! Such lovely people

He knows he might be blackballed by someone.

Can you imagine how embarrassing that would be for an ego like his? He'd never risk it getting out. Far better to just continue mooching.

Sounds like someone is jelly! He should have an ego! He was President of the United States for two terms...and you?

Why do you still join country clubs? Don’t you feel bad about throwing all that money for some rec club instead of donating it to some worthy charities? Imagine how many children you could feed and provide shelter. It’s so sad where your priorities are

I’m sure the OP from 2011 appreciates your thoughts.

Plenty of those people donate and raise money for charities.
