Exactly. And their kids, even if they’re average looking, have “pedigree” and tend to marry (back) into real money. I personally witnessed this happen with several sorority sisters. The totally average looking UMC “old money” gals married relatively young and married well. |
So what’s the playbook to get into this place? |
Be rich, have someone in your household work in BigLaw or an elite lobbying firm, be willing to look past problematic membership practices and a patently racist past, care deeply about social status, be better than normies in all verifiable ways and don't shy away from your betterness. Send your kids to top private schools - Cathedral schools are extra points. |
Sad that people pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to some park or whatever. Donate that money to the children of Gaza or some other charitable purpose! |
New money and Trump supporter or heavily GOP pretty much dominates the membership these days. It is not really an elite club. If you are looking for elite, old monied, cultured and well mannered types that are also nice I would recommend Kenwood. Very low key but lots of nice families. |
Lol! |
Oh no. Somebody hasn't been scrutinizing the candidates who have been put up for membership well enough. Read those club reports, my darlings! |
So no Disney for you this year? I’m sure you e already donated that vacation money, right OP. Oh wait, the poors don’t need to donate. |
Lots of funny input here. Pretty straightforward IMO: 1) Have a good reason for joining (e.g., genuine interest in the activities) 2) Don't be a tw@t 3) If you have (actual) friends who are members, express to them your interest in exploring membership -- they can help you navigate Third point is important. You shouldn't want to join club X Y or Z because you think it's prestigious or will be good for your social standing / career (if you do think this way, see point #2... you're probably a tw@t), but rather because (A) your friends and broader circle are members there (so it's a nice, familiar place) and (B) you will get a lot of use out of it for yourself and your family. 99.9% probability your friends (who are members) will be excited that you're interested because that means you get to hang out there together. Not rocket science! |
