Murder at Lululemon in Bethesda

Definition: Coincidence 2. A sequence of events that although accidental seems to have been planned or arranged.
Ok....so if it was a coincidence and this definition is so.....then the fact that although accidental it certainly seems to have been planned or arranged.....as in....inside job!

Did the police release any additional details yet, or is there a planned news conference or something?

Hate to break it to you, but there are coincidences. Happens all the time.

As for the speculators who'd like to think one of the victims was in on it: you're grasping for something to make the victim NOT THE SAME AS YOU. If the victims were not complicit, but just nice law abiding women engaged in mundane daily activities, well then - that means that you too could be brutally beaten, raped, tortured, murdered - all because you forgot your cell phone or ran out to help a friend with something that seemed perfectly safe.

Guess what? It could have been you.

Ding ding ding! Exactly.

I get the urge for amateur sleuthing and hypothesizing about what might have happened. Some of us (me included) watch too many Law & Order reruns and think we have a clue about this stuff. And we all want to make sense of this as a means of reassuring ourselves that WE can't be the victims of such horrific crimes. But a lot of crime is random - there is no good reason for it whatsoever other than the fact that bad people do bad things.

While we're getting up in arms about unsolved murders in the area, here are a few more from the district. I wonder if we'll extend the same level of outrage/confusion/sympathy to these victims. Something (perhaps a quick perusal of their pictures) tells me we won't...

Are you implying that the posters in this thread are racist? Okay, I'll bite.

First off, I'm not white (before you go off calling me a 'white racist'). But, this murder catches the attention of people on this website because it happened to a middle class, young girl in a Bethesda neighborhood. Most of the women on this site are professional women - White/Black/Asian, and many posters here live in Montgomery County.

If there is a murder in Juneau, Alaska, does it generate as much interest as a murder in your town? Probably not.

I'm sure the murders you posted the link too generate a ton of interest in their respective neighborhoods.

Your accusations that people are interested in this murder only because the victim was white are rude and disrespectful to the victim.

Who ever said that we don't think this couldn't happen to us!? Who said we are trying to make ourselves different than the other victim involved? Quite frankly....this blog is not about psychoanalyzing the people writing on it. We are merely speculating.

1. the contemplation or consideration of some subject: to engage in speculation on humanity's ultimate destiny.
2. a single instance or process of consideration.
3. a conclusion or opinion reached by such contemplation: These speculations are impossible to verify.
4. conjectural consideration of a matter; conjecture or surmise: a report based on speculation rather than facts.

How do we know the victim.....one still alive is white? We have NO idea what she is?

Actually...no. We are not looking for ways to nullify that it could have been us. We are thinking that the facts that have been released do not add up. You are completely entitled to your opinion and if you do not think the other victim was involved great...if I am suspicious about it then I can be.

If it was in fact ALL a really crazy conicidence so be it. But many people out there think it was not. And we can think that until more facts come out. Thanks!

Why would the theory that this could be an inside job make us feel like this could not happen to us? At least one of the victims obviously was not connected with the attackers in any way. Clearly this could happen to anyone.

Justification for the speculation, yes. I am the PP who said I don't have a problem with the speculation, but I have a major problem with people wanting to dig around and publicize her name.

Still waiting for a valid reason on that one.

Keep waiting because there is none. [/quote

Why do you care? The person on the site did not ask for her freaking name to be released. They asked if there was any information or if anyone knew her. Stop freaking out. Maybe you should go patrol the other blogs who are naming her friends. If the cops let it out its out. If its out its out deal with it. Its curiousity not malicious. Sorry you think the worst in people who are not you.

I am in COMPLETE agreement! Not to nullify that it can't happen to me but because that is the way it looks from where I am standing!

My thoughts exactly. No one wants to believe the two men were just on the prowl looking for any woman they could find and assault her -- I guess that scenario hits too close to home.

I agree, which is why this is so freaking sad and scary and why so many of us DCUM'ers are talking about it.

I just wanted to add my $.02 for what it's worth (which is nothing, I know). I believe in the old adage that the simplest answer is usually the right one. And that being said, I think that these two animals were waiting around to do something else, but then saw these two women go into the store and thought, hey, let's rob them instead. It makes sense that they would have found a boxcutter and hammer in the store and weren't sitting around armed with these things. I am also guessing/speculating/whatever that while maybe they did intend just to rob, that the two victims fought back and that these animals became angry and violent. That is NOT to say that the women are at fault for what happened. I'm just saying that there are horrendously disturbed and violent people out there who think nothing of becoming murderous torturers in the blink of an eye. Praying with all my heart and soul that they are caught.

I have not read all 13 pages but my coworkers and I were just discussing this at lunch. I just chalked it up to what the PP said the simplest answer is usually the right one (i.e., crime of opportunity.) HOWEVER . . . a good point was made and now I'm reconsidering.

If these men were going to just rob them, then just do it. From what I'm told, what little they took was a paltry sum (but maybe someone can correct me). But, the viciousness and seeming anger of the attacks seems "off" to me. Something is not right (but I am no way believing the other victim had anything to do with it.) Veteran police officers have said that the beating of the Jayna Murray was something none of them have ever seen before. Really awful stuff. (And, trust me, I do think this CAN happen to anyone.)

BTW, if you have not seen it (though it's prob been mentioned), there is a link to Jayna's 30th birthd ay bungee jumping video, which she posted to Youtube in December and you can get to through an article in today's online Post. Such a seeiming vibrant woman and a happy day for her. Brought tears to my eyes.
