Wealth. A lot less of it.

Don’t turn on the new Woodward families when MCPS divided the schools and even the WJ cluster in an unexpected way. The way they split KP and GP puts all the single family homes in WJ rather than Woodward.

Is there a more close up map to show where gp and kp split?

GPES has many multi family houses still going to WJ. The Parkside condos, stoneybrook, apts near Grosvenor.

The islands from GPES that didn’t get WJ make complete sense. They should go to Woodward. One is directly next to Woodward.

Option B was the right call.

They will do elementary boundary soon to mitigate some of the split articulation issues. KPES is under capacity and Ashburton is over capacity. It will get resolved.

Looks like all the Option B signs on Strathmore worked.

They were desperate to avoid Woodward.

I won't celebrate yet. MCPS may not ceoncentrate poverty in Woodward and make both schools more similar in final approval. It will depend on how hard Old Farm/North FArm and Luxmanor area lobbies.

As they should have been desperate to avoid Woodward. Fashion design? It grabs from Wheaton Woods now too. No thank you

Attention will be on Wootton. This Woodward rec is done deal.

Note that Taylor only submitted this rec for Woodward. In the Crown study he submitted a recommendation plus an alternative.

The BOE members can if they want to not appear completely useless stand up bravely against racial segregation by moving Viers Mill ES to WJ.

You lost credibility there. VM “improved” from Wheaton to Woodward too. You don’t see VM clamoring for WJ. GPE and KPE keeps status quo for its core.

I am from VM and prefer WJ.

Same. It’s a perfect solution. Move VM to WJ. Move all of GP to Woodward. FARMS rates are more evenly distributed. GP remains united just like they want[b]

Yes, I see no harms in it and see many positives.

Is there a theory on why this wasn't done already?

You are for the redistribution of wealth to VM. Shocking perspective for someone who lives in VM. You want to be able to better afford your addition. Woodward is an upgrade. You instead want to take WJ from GP where they have decades long relationship.

Yah, it's a relationship between people, lol. Give it a break.

Nothing wrong in VM parents to want to join WJ. GP does not have any unuversal rights to attend WJ when its making Woodward so much higher FARMS.

Not enough noise from Old Farm/North Farm/Luxmanor families. Loud voices got heard so far.

Does MS to HS articulation remain the same based on where you're enrolled at the time of the change, or does it change based on home address?

Our neighborhood is currently zoned to SSIMS and Northwood, but will become Eastern and Blair if this recommendation is accepted.

DC will finish at SSIMS in June 2029. Would they remain with Northwood, or follow the "new" neighborhood boundary to Blair?

I could be wrong, but I believe they'd switch to Eastern in Fall 2027 and then go on to Blair.

I think a lot of people are deeply aware that a lot of wealth in Montgomery County relies on economic and racial segregation. Sone people have to do worse for other people to do better.

PP here. I thought they were doing no transfers in OR out of SSIMS before the closure. That's why it makes the HS issue more confusing.

I'm happy with it. But we're one of the small group in the Forest Glen Annex who will articulate to Silver Creek MS then B-CC HS. It never made sense to me that we weren't always with them--my older child could never walk to Sligo MS anyway, and Einstein is just as far as B-CC from our house!

No, I think that was abandoned when the closure decision was punted. I agree it would have been preferable to keep the SSIMS boundary the same given its uncertain status.

In some parts of GP and KP, not all. In some parts they are pulling their hair out

Right well I think it’s fair to say that mcps did not lean into equity in any way for this one.

This will create some interesting dynamic among current WJ parents in the next year and half. On one side winners of the Taylor's sweepstakes walking around smirking for hitting the jackpot, and on the other side losers looking for a second job to afford private school. I would recommend bringing a metal detector to the next PTA meeting.

Einstein gets a bad turn in this recent recommendation. They’re increasing in both Farms and EML learners. BCC gets more Farms and Wheaton gets more EML.

So be happy with what you got.

Keeping SSIMS elementary assignments stable was the plan when they were moving forward with the closure, with options E-G. Then when the decision got delayed, there wasn't really any advocacy to keep SSIMS together through the boundary study (I think it was mostly SCES and Highland View families who figured they'd get to stay no matter what so it wasn't a priority for them) so it looks like MCPS just went with what was easiest for them. (There's no good way to keep all the middle school assignments the same for a few more years without keeping Arcola ES at Odessa Shannon MS, but those are on opposite sides of their beloved big black Regional Boundary Line, so of course that was unthinkable.)

And yes, boundaries go into effect immediately in the 2027-28 year based on where your address falls on these maps-- unless a kid is going into 8th, 11th or 12th grade in which case they can stay at their old school. Your child is a 5th grader, correct? They will go to SSIMS next year, then switch to Eastern in 7th with the new boundaries, and then move on to Blair when it's time for high school.

Ah, yeah, I can see how that group would be happy-- dealing with split articulation from ES is probably worth it for that. Seems like it sucks for the other part of Woodlin, though-- I'll be curious to hear how upset they are (isn't Laura Stewart from Woodlin?) Do you have a sense of roughly what fraction of the school is on your side of the boundary line?

STEM at Wheaton - is it a good program? Comparable to Blair? I am so upset they are dividing us in 6 regions.

.

Wheaton is the top high school for enrollment into UMD's School of Engineering. It's good - great principal.

Yes, that was due to picking good students from 6 DCC HS. I suspect situation will change now.

Was it criteria based?

Woodward/wj will provide many many smart kids that would easily fill the program at wheaton

What will happen to kids who are not able to join, even fewer courses in Woodward?
