It was criterion based. Anyway, it won' be the same program going forward. |
| I wonder why they aren't sending the Summit Hills apartments to BCC |
I have just as much a right as you do to advocate for what’s best for my child. Unlike you, I am advocating for something that would benefit the majority of the Woodward and WJ area as well |
It will be a better program. NBMS kids are very bright. I am sure the parents will be a driving force. So many kids went to RM and Blair from our cluster. |
I think they are. The recommendation says "Students assigned to Woodlin Elementary School who reside west of the MARC Brunswick train line will be reassigned to Silver Creek Middle School and Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School." |
Slinging nonsense on message boards is not advocacy. It definitely would be to detriment to all of the new WJ area to do as you say. Taylor was reasonable. Alleviated crowding at Wheaton by sending Wheaton Woods and VM rightfully to the brand spanking new Woodward to be with the rich kids of Farmland and Luxmanor. |
| Isn’t this talk of which students will attend and how poor they will be a little premature, given that the new 6-region model will mean that students can select another school in their region for one of its programs? So, a couple of hundred “poor” kids from Einstein or Northwood or Blair will be going to BCC or Whitman every year, for example. |
“BCC” (Woodward) chiming in when they get their IB and Engineering locally, access to Blair and Whitman. Rich “BCC” desires FARMS at other schools but not their own. |
|
County needs revenue for schools.
WW and VM property values went up. So did new WJ. This will be good for the entire county. Higher values means more tax revenue. Helps all schools. Who cares that Farmland and Luxmanor tread water in the property value game. |
So it looks like for ES the Summit Hills apartments are currently split between RHES/CCES and Woodlin. The RHES/CCES ones are currently at BCC and staying that way in the Superintendent's recommendation. If you look at the interactive map with the Superintendent's recommendation, the Summit Hills apartments that are currently zoned for Woodlin ES are recommended to stay at Einstein HS https://maulfoster.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=dbc077a0c6fe4b83bfc6593589a77c41 Maybe it's a mistake with the map? |
Either the map is wrong or the recommendation is wrong, as they don't match. |
I know those homes. Very few though. |
Probably won’t hear from them. Not the loud type. But mcps should still do the right thing here. |
Taylor promises that all students who meet the criteria and apply will be able to move to these programs. That’s what I think his projected enrollment charts are bogus. We know what schools kids will move to based on the school’s demographics and programs offerings. Any current 5th grader in compacted math only has Wheaton as a HS option until MCPS adds new HS courses after IM |
| Honestly the loss of diversity is a big loss for WJ. That is part of what makes it such a special place. I’m sorry for them. |
