Pomona falls to ADL, Brandeis Center for Antisemitism, no mention of Islamophobia

I can't see this as anything but a scary development.

It’s DEI for Jews. And it’s really annoying.

Why are there so many anti Semites on the left? It’s really strange to me how much y’all hate Jews. I thought we were beyond this but obviously I was wrong.

As part of the settlement, Pomona has agreed to adopt a comprehensive set of significant reforms designed to address anti-Semitism on campus, enhance protections from discrimination for Jewish and Israeli students, and align its policies and practices with Title VI and federal guidance.

Sounds like a cash grab/reparations that happened at Columbia for Jewish students and faculty....

Coming to a college near you!

Especially ones with large endowments.....

Where do you see cash settlements involved? This one and the Occidental involve making changes to protect Jews at the school - not money

The money aspect may be that Pomona sensed an existential risk from better-funded entities if it were not to capitulate. At this level of pressure, it seems irrelevant whether or not some of the provisions of the settlement may be fundamentally reasonable.

Not surprising given the absolute sh*tshow last year and at graduation.

That was 2024— last year was certainly a sh!tshow but 2025 was different.

I wouldn’t say graduation was a sh!tshow

I wasn’t there, but it sounded pretty ugly. “Minor fights” between protesters and families, batter on LEO, etc.

Huh. I was there the whole weekend and didn’t see or hear about anything like that.

Worst thing we experienced was the speeches for each of the multiple honorary grads, including one who told the grads to try and make as much money as possible.

Here’s the NYT article: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/12/us/pomona-college-graduation-protests.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8E8.Zwoy.V-hI6t7gdPmK&smid=url-share

Sorry— that was 2024, which was a sh!tshow all year up thru graduation (which the admin rescheduled at the last minute meaning some families missed it) but 2025 was very different. Thought you were referring to 2025 graduation.

Yeah 2025 is completely different. President Starr made it so that if you organize any protest and something wrong happens, it's your fault and you will get suspended (and potentially expelled). They've effectively shut $hit down.

President Starr went completely East German Stasi when kids barged in on an event earlier this fall, asking students to become informers - everything. She is an embarrassment to Pomona. Never attended or taught at a liberal arts college before walking into the Pomona presidency; a SLAC defines “community” a little differently than NYU.

“Barged in on an event”?

Why don’t you share the full story?

https://www.thecollegefix.com/video-masked-pro-palestinian-activists-disrupt-israeli-memorial-at-pomona-college/

They’re lucky they didn’t get shot.

These threads are pointless. Neither side is going to admit the other one is wrong.

There are no "sides". Just one group demanding that we fight Iran's battle for them and the rest of us saying well, things are more complicated than that...

To the far-left there are sides. Pro-Palis are the in-group. Everyone else is the out-group. Pro-Palis are good. Everyone else is evil. It's the left's version of MAGA duality.

Thank God the in group is against genocide and mass murder and starvation - as it should be. The pro genocide group should always be ostracized from society- and they will be for the rest of their lives. No coming back from this. Best of luck!

Oh please. The Germans made a complete comeback after their genocide of the Jews during WW II. Just look in the mirror and admit that you hate Jews.

Protect? Protect?

From what? Words they don’t like to hear?

Protection from the anti-Semitism described.
If you don't agree, that's fine. No one is looking for your approval.

So … words. What a joke.

Your putting words in my mouth, no pun intended. Review the reports of the anti Semitism for yourself.

You sound like a bully. A thought bully. Maybe there should not be “Israel”. Maybe there should be the country of “Israel and Palestine” so that the occupied territories have a country and all minorities are protected in a federalist structure. Maybe you disagree. But maybe, just maybe, saying this is not anti-Semitic.

The consciousness of guilt amongst Zionists lies within a bottomless well.

It’s so much less that they are actually hated by others than that they just know, intrinsically, that their belief system and especially their actions are so richly deserving of hatred.

And, of course, they hijack the “Jew” label to frighten others into backing down in calling out their actions.

But of course, drawing Jews who don’t share their breathlessly radical, extremist, terroristic ideology into the crossfire is an easy “sacrifice”. After all, constantly fomenting conflict with your neighbors, disrespecting others 24/7, viewing others as beneath you and merely “useful idiots” (notice how easily that rolls of their tongues) - shoot, all of those core beliefs are repeated over and over and over again on every page of the Zionist 101 for Dummies book.

Because it’s trendy. Because the left gets its news in sound bites from the leftist media but don’t research the issues for themselves. Because they are sheeple.

This appears to coincide with a viewpoint held by Hillary Clinton, at least with respect to Israel. Here you can view one of several online discussions of this topic:

The loon / nutter / word salad sock puppet is actually part of a loon / nutter / word salad / “Hillary is hardly a Zionist!” sock puppet arrangement … yikes.

I’d get contrarian vibes from just about anything Hillary has to say, so checks out that she would be a corrupted loser regarding Israel (like Bill) anyway … nothing new under the sun there.

I have hesitated to join this "discussion" but I have not seen anyone point the following out.

First off use the frame of reference you would use for other groups, i.e. do you argue with black people when they say that they perceive certain words as racist, things like "master bedroom." Or whether you challenge women when they say a man made a sexist joke?

For some reason Jews are different, we do not get any grace for saying that we think people who challenge only Israel's existence (there are literally dozens of countries founded or with redrawn borders since modern state of Israel) to be antisemitic.

Easy way to see if you are an antisemite, instead of saying/writing "Zionist" replace it with Jew or Jews- would you still write the statement about the "Jews?" Would you do so publicly under your name? Would do write it if you replaced it with Black, Latino etc?

Just so you know 70% of Jews say that Israel's existence is important to them/their Jewish identity.

Israel has challenged its own existence by making a two-state solution impossible. So is Israel inherently anti-Semitic?
