I am a brown American whose family has been in the country for 2 generations. I worry about my son. |
Well, I’m pleased to inform you that the local police can’t get them deported. |
np - I thought a lot of local police departments were getting paid to work with ICE, no?0 |
Local police are not performing immigration enforcement on the streets. The jails may have officers that have gone through some DHS training to be able to facilitate transfers of individuals with immigration detainers that have been jailed for local crimes already. |
| DC can't even host a World Cup. Y'all should go look at Philadelphia, they are getting the city ready for huge crowds. |
People are cancelling. FIFA just released 2,000 rooms in Philadelphia because they were not getting sold. https://6abc.com/post/fifa-releases-2000-hotel-rooms-philadelphia-ahead-world-cup/18752417/ |
A large part of that has to do with the economy and how much they're charging. FIFA's blatant money grab and its Peace Prize winner are combining to put a damper on what should have been an amazing event. |
Whatever the excuse or reason, people are not coming to America. |
Trump will convince MAGA they like soccer and they will pack the stadiums. |
Because smart U.S. residents in host cities are using VRBO to rent their homes for exorbitant amounts. |
Yep, the Brazil vs Haiti game is going to be a wild city-wide party that DC protestors can enjoy livestreaming. Few days later the French descend on the city for more festivities. FIFA cancelling hotel rooms just means no one is booking FIFA travel packages ie: not being hustled. |
Hopefully you’re not actually this deluded irl. America is a toxic brand right now. Tourism was plummeting before Trump started committing war crimes and sending ICE to the airports. And who knows what his next Epstein deflection will be. But none of this is going to attract foreigners. They will go to Canada and Mexico. |
You’re wishing so hard for this to happen. It won’t. The WC will bring in billions. |
I'm sorry you think people are going to stay home and post about Israel and the USA. But no one is skipping a world cup game for that. |
|
I think attendance will be way lower than anticipated. But I don’t think it will be due to a boycott, per se. I think brown people will actually be afraid to come here. No fans are more committed than soccer fans, but they have their limits. And they would be much safer catching a match in Canada or Mexico.
I have been watching hotel rates, just out of curiosity. They are starting to come down and plenty of rooms available. |
