Boycotting the World Cup

I am delighted for the many, many ways this has been a success, and the joy it has brought again to this country.

I am saddened by the accounts of people who have been returned away, harassed, or unable to afford to participate fully.

Also, typical FIFA shenanigans. They reversed THREE different goals for Iran.

Iran was so aggressive and not doing teamwork well. I got frustrated and went to bed.

Remember when American liberals and Euro socialists told us to boycott the World Cup because of Trump?

Remember when these same idiots claimed nobody would come and ticket sales would suck?

We just set a FIFA World Cup attendance record! 3.6M million soccer fans to date. The highest-ever in the history of the tournament! 🌎❤️

Take from that what you will.

I will take away that the majority of US games have been hosted by blue states or cities.

Absolutely no one on the planet wants to deal with ICE and American immigration these days. The media in every country is filled with stories of very legal tourists getting detained or expelled for no reason whatsoever. Plus Trump is universally despised. The US is not an attractive destination these days. The tourism numbers have collapsed over the past ten months.

Plus FIFA or US Soccer or whoever is responsible for ticket prices has completely overreached when it comes to ticket prices. The prices are absurd. No one is spending $4000 for a middling seat to watch Haiti-Morocco in Atlanta.

As stated in 12/2025

ROFL

COPTER

Is probably the best response to how wildly wrong all these predictions were.

You sound like the people who say Y2K was overhyped since nothing happened. Nothing happened because smart people put in the work to make sure nothing happened.

Hundreds of organizations have been hard at work to fight back against ICE/Trump. If Trump was left to his own devices, he would have ICE out there rounding up brown people in soccer shirts left and right.

I live in Kansas City, and I am a big soccer fan. I was afraid it would be a disaster and wanted US pulled from hosting. Thanks to those who fought back against Trump, I have been having the time of my life. Seeing my city embrace teams from other countries and learn about their culture has been absolutely beautiful. Someone said that the US didn’t deserve the WC, but we sure needed it. I could not agree more. I have seen as much hype for the countries we are hosting as I have for the US team. It has been a blast “adopting” these teams and cheering them on.

Ticket prices are still absurd and unattainable for most of us. Turns out there’s enough rich people to fill the seats. Glad you think that’s a win. I am seeing my wealthy friends who never cared about soccer going to matches just for the clout. Meanwhile, I am meeting fans from all over the world who travelled here to be a part of it, but can’t afford to actually go to a match. I can’t afford to go to a match. It shouldn’t be that way.

So, yes, it has been wonderful to show the world that we are better than our current leadership. But all the success of the WC is in spite of Trump, not because of him.

I’m in California and our stadiums are packed with fans who live and breathe soccer (I am one of them).

I don’t understand the people who are so sad that the stadiums are packed and many tourists are having a great time. It’s the dumbest, most cynical and depressing outlook on life.

Nobody is sad to see stadiums packed. We are sad to see ticket price gouging and the fact that many soccer fans can’t go to a match.

Well, many soccer fans are in fact going to matches. You are going to have to come to grips with that.

It is bizarre you seem to think that the country that easily funds one of the most expensive pay-to-play soccer development models in the world doesn’t also have fans willing to pay a lot of money for once-in-a-lifetime tickets.

The copium and delusion in this thread are astounding.

I think it's fair for middle class folks to gripe about being priced out of see WC games. This has actually been a gripe from WC fans globally for decades.

Sure. Welcome to FIFA. But people weren’t just griping in this thread, they were predicting and hoping for abject failure due to ticket prices. I mean, look at the title of the thread. It’s laughable.

Well I for one was hoping people would boycott and am sad that I was wrong. Where do people get all this money for these exorbitant prices.

You must live a dreadfully depressing life.

Yep, we’ve seen successful blue cities thrive.

Ok, but that last goal takeaway especially was not off. Also, the harassment their support people have faced is criminal.

Iran threatened to walk out and leave if there is any unauthorized LGBTQ+ display.
Honestly I hope someone smuggles in LGBTQ banners or pulls some other stunt on Iran.
