Sorry to hear that. Like a PP said. There are worse backups than Durham! She should be very happy about Durham. Phenomenal uni and very good in History too.

This is the avg using the same weight:

1. Oxford — avg 2.33

2. Cambridge / LSE & St Andrews — tied at avg 2.67

3. Durham — avg 4.33
4. Imperial — avg 6.00
5. Warwick — avg 8.00
6. Bath — avg 7.67
7. Loughborough — avg 10.00
8. UCL — avg 10.67
9. Lancaster — avg 11.33
10. Exeter — avg 14.00

Your averages are not correct…. This is the correct avg of all 3:

1. Oxford — 2.33
2. Cambridge / LSE / St Andrews — 2.67
3. Durham — 4.33
4. Imperial — 6.00
5. Bath — 7.67
6. Warwick — 8.00
7. Loughborough — 10.00
8. UCL — 10.67
9. Lancaster — 13.00
10. Bristol — 13.33
11. Exeter — 14.00

Outside Oxbridge which would compete with Ivies, any of these schools here would be a great option for any US student looking to save 30 to 60% vs Full pay US privates.

These are great and make sense, but you have two look at individual courses too.

Yes
39 IB
2 APs self study at 5 (planning on taking 2 more after senior yr)
1500 SAT

Unconditional from Durham and Exeter. Straight rejection from St Andrews. Awaiting UCs.

Durham bound -- good luck! Sorry about St. A's. That's a tough one as she looks like a strong applicant.

For next year's applicants, I *think* that applying very early (in early September) might be helpful. It's also my guess (though I have no back up on this) that it might make sense to apply via the Common App to St. A's rather than through UCAS. St. A's likes full paying international students, and applying via the Common App stresses that your DC will be one of those.

Of course, using the Common App for St. A's is $$ ($90? $100?) vs basically free via UCAS (L25 for five UK universities).

Good luck all!

Total rubbish.

+1. The fact that PP mentions St. Andrews and LSE and not Imperial or King's College tells you they have no idea what they are talking about. Here are the recent QW world university rankings: Imperial College 2; Oxford 4; Cambridge 6, King's College 31; Edinburgh 34; LSE 56, and St. Andrews at a low 136. https://www.topuniversities.com/universities/university-st-andrews

QS rankings are garbage for undergraduate education…..looks at US unis. Notre Dame, which is a TOP 20 undergraduate uni, is ranked way after schools like Arizona State….or other mediocre state univeristies in the US.

She applied using Common App. They knew she was American…..We were surprised too. Not sure if her major was specially competitive this year.

I mean QS also understates LSE because LSE is only for social sciences.

that is not as egregious as Notre Dame, Georgetown, Dartmouth, etc….. while a bunch of state schools with 95% admission rates are highly ranked….. never uae these rankings for undergrad….

This is obvious. QS has nothing to do with undergraduate education. Only an informed person would pick Arizona State instead of Notre Dame or Georgetown….

And yet the world, wiki, and the Chronicle of Higher Education disagrees with you. https://www.asu.edu.eg/QsRanking/
