Canada and Mexico will absolutely hurt more than the US but the US will hurt as well. Make no mistake, NOBODY. N O B O D Y wins in a trade war. It's only the extent and length of the pain. Everyone - the rich, the poor - will feel this in all 3 countries. How badly you suffer is the question but it's just totally silly.

It's one thing to want to express your dominance but it's another to inflict suffering upon everyone, including yourself. I'm not sure what is wrong with everyone these days. Boycotts of corporations is the same concept. You just can't expect to not go to a store out of spite and cause people to lose their jobs to make a point to people who do not care about the point you are trying to make. There are so many other ways for Trump to make a point just the same as those who are angry about the policies of certain companies. It's not to make everyone suffer!!!

I'm so worried about our world. Globally. This is more than just Canada and Mexico. US impacts globally and you can be sure that globally, we're all in so much uncertainty right now. I'm not sure the US is going to come out of this ahead in the world as we have been for so many years. There's a lot of players and it's no longer the one country that dominates. There's going to be a lot of changes globally and I predict in the coming years, the good news is that it isn't going to be just one player who gets to call the shots. It'll be interesting to see how long Trump plays the tariff game.

I think this is a good post, but misguided. We have always been in a trade war.

When China is stealing our trade secrets: trade war.

When Canada has Canada-content laws for its media: trade war.

When the EU threatens to fine our largest tech companies on the basis of worldwide revenue: trade war.

When Canada has massive tariffs on American dairy: trade war.

When Mexico allows black market labor and drugs to pour across our border because the money makes its way back to Mexico: trade war.

When other counties force Americans to subsidize their socialized medicine by undercutting the cost of pharmaceuticals under the specter of just ignoring the IP: trade war.

For the past three decades many Americans have been happy with the status quo trade war because frankly we were winners in that trade war. But enough Americans seem to have said “enough”.

Trump has not started a trade war. He’s only changed the rules of engagement. And if his voting base is made up of people who have been harmed by the trade war or the past three decades (which seems to be true), what do they care if others get hurt by this version of the trade war?

I think all countries with Farms subsidize farmers for national (and world) security. The land needs to be profitable in droughts and market disruptions so it remains arable and maintains its ability to feed the populations along with the means/systems of food production being maintained.

A honest breakdown of all these tariffs/vat taxes/regulatory impediments/currency manipulation and subsidies would be helpful.

Trump is totally right about one thing…Tariffs on the worlds largest consumer market is an unbelievably awesome tool. When China pulls its currency manipulation / dumping tricks you just raise the tariff 10 percent. When they stop you lower the tariff. You can adjust them instantly

Fixing it would be re-notiating it. If it's that unfair why did he sign it? He thought he was brilliant when he signed it.
