Irony: the first President of Benedictine College in the 1970s was a woman.
That speech must be a gut punch to his mother. I’d love to hear her thoughts on it. I bet she has a lot to say. Pretty clear that he’s been radicalized by the TradCaths. Opus Dei targets wealthy Catholics to join their little club and he would be a prime target. |
There is a bigger backlash. |
So, basically, he's saying To men: make sure your wife is a sahm so you can focus on your career and be a real man To women: make sure you take care of the kids and house so your husband can focus on his career. If both the man and woman want that kind of marriage, then who are we to say otherwise. But, it does seem a bit tone deaf to be saying that at a graduation of college students, many of whom are women, including the professors and admins who are sitting on the stage. |
Wrong again.., most of the choir completely an utterly disagree with him. The problem with propaganda is you pepper lies with some truths and the blind only see the truth and believe the lies too. But go ahead bite the apple what negative things could happen from an innocent little apple. |
Yes, I said up thread, he must've felt neglected by his mother or something. Mommy issues? Seems like it. He reeks of misogyny. Not to mention that many women on the stage at the graduation who are professors and admins there. |
| What's wrong is that women are forced to do double duty to support capitalism. They should've choices and support to decide their paths and shouldn't be conned into doing more than men. |
Did he get booed? Did a lot of people give him a standing ovation.. applause? I would not have applauded. He has zero respect for female grads, so why should I respect his speech? |
Who's forcing women to work? You seem confused. Women today have choices. They did not when the country was much more religious and traditional. -signed an older gen xer who grew up in a conservative home. |

What's the original take of Catholicism on roles of men and women in a family and in a society? |
No really. Economy, society, capitalism and fragile marriages force them to work or be destitute at any given moment. |
| He had an upbringing he doesn't want for his children. |
| May be he felt his mom had too much on her plate? |
I agree. I think people can do what ever they want as long as they're not hurting anyone and they can pay for it. What responsibility does society have to women if their setup goes south? |
That’s is literally the exact opposite of what he said to the men and you’d know that if you read/listened to the whole speech. His message to men was that their focus must be on their vocation as a husband/father. He basically says everything else is secondary to that. |
Nobody cares. Unlike most football players, he doesn't have any history of cheating, abuse, divorce, affairs, drinking, drugs, crime, fights, violence, sexual misconduct etc either. |
