| There’s a reason the most popular religion in the United States is no religion. The Catholic Church has apologized and hidden child rapists for centuries but they’ll jettison a wonderful teacher in a minute. Hypocrisy. You all keep your kids at a school that probably pays money for the defense of child molester priests. But clutch your pearls at this? |
I am a SR parent and I agree. I think the HOS is fantastic and very thoughtful. She is a strong leader and balances lots of interest. I don't see how he could have stayed as the head of middle school, but I personally would have let him stay to end of school year as a teacher. He is beloved. |
|
The HOS letter also reaffirmed SR's support for the LGBTQ community, and explained how it is consistent with Catholic teachings. See for example the Pope's recent announcement re supporting the community.
I could not be more proud to be a SR family. |

HoS came out strong for LGTBQ rights in her letter. Don't know another Catholic school in this area who has put these words in writing. Incredibly bold and brave. That she says this to the "lesbian haters" during admissions season suggests both her Gospel-rooted stance and her lack of worry about filling seats.
Also, letter says that dean is "departing." Does not say he was fired. Whatever happened, poor guy is probably relieved it is all over. |
You can live the past if you want, but the truth of the matter is that the Catholic Church has never been more careful than now about rooting out anything resembling sexual abuse in its schools. I know my kids are safer in Catholic schools than public schools because of the hoops the teachers and volunteers much go through to be cleared. Oh, and clearly you are a bigot. |
Not a bigot. It's not living in the past, it's living the present with a keen awareness of the misery that the Catholic Church has caused millions of people. As of January 2024, thirty-seven US Catholic religious organizations have sought bankruptcy protection in chapter 11. Twenty-four cases have concluded, 13 are still pending. The fact is that they are doing that because of the years of protection the Catholic Church gave to pedophiles. That's a fact. They will still be paying off that debt for years to come. Your tithing to the Catholic Church goes to pay off settlements and the economic ruin that was caused by...you guessed it, the Catholic Church and those with power in the Catholic Church. |
Your opinion is really dark. I agree, he has a lovely personality and I hope they employ others with similar charisma. I wish his well, and I also agree it sounds like he was somewhat entrapped by people with ulterior motive that he thought were a friendly ear. Awful! But the issue fis not even "subverting" the church (though that's a layer), it's subverting parents whatever their religion or absence thereof. This is an issue across America, where perhaps well meaning individuals and institutions are taking over that role for parents. Parents dont have to have all the say, but they should have input into their minor childrens lives and well being and that's the problem with what was said. |
The Catholic Church is the largest charitable organization in the US. Catholic hospitals, schools, food banks, homeless shelters. Very proud to support my church and the ways they relieve misery across the country. Take a quick peek at all of the work Catholic Charities for the very poor and stop being blinded by your bigotry. |
I sure if you wrote a card it would be passed along, and hope the school is giving him a strong recommendation. I don't know where he was departing for, but hope that is intact. |
“No religion” is not a religion. Sorry. |
| I’m glad he is gone. Go spread your subversive ideas elsewhere. |
I’m glad he was not fired and I hear he jointly made the decision to leave with the school given the threats he was receiving. Have some compassion, I hope the school gave him a great financial deal to end his contract early. |
I think this is fair to say, except his staying at the school was absolutely not going to work. So saying the "threats" are what made him leave is a bit of a stretch. He would not have ever had the same level of respect from parents, students, and other faculty as he did before the incident. Yes he had some support, but there were many who were unhappy that were not speaking up. |
And some of those speaking up against him sounded like bigots, I lost a lot of respect for other SR parents over the past month. |
Oh, really? How so? I’m an SR parent and have heard nothing bigoted from any other parent, regardless of their opinion on the situation. |
