NP. I’m a new poster to this thread and I didn’t even have to read the rest of the thread to know who you are talking about. It’s the lady who claims she lost something like 60 lbs about 20 years ago and kept it all off, right? But clearly has massive emotional issues, and her story sounds very fake? Yeah. She is relentless and posts here all the time. You can ignore. |
What I believe: most doctors are idiots when it comes to diet, and probably shouldn’t speak to it at all. |
Butter is good for you. |
That sounds like projection on your part. I've been on both sides, and I know the stories we tell ourselves to keep the narrative going. |
Sounds like a different person. I'm this person, and very much real. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1132392.page |
Yes, it's rare. But it has nothing to do with what's possible, and everything to do with the choices we make. Most people don't like change and the discomfort it makes us feel. |

Well, the average person on earth is mostly a mouth breathing idiot. So, if you want to aspire to be average, I am not sure you will be very successful at much of anything. Weight loss is the only topic in the history of this board where large numbers of posters strive to argue they are "normal." Otherwise, everyone is exceptional in all other aspects of their lives, or so they lead themselves to believe. |
While I agree with your general assessment of GP doctor knowledge of nutrition and their counseling skills on this, the delivery here is harsh. GP practice in the US is a hell hole, compounded only by patients showing up late with five bazillion complaints. Then that same patient gets upset when they don’t get one on one nutrition counseling during a 15 minute check in appointment. |
Who is actually, truly "hungry" all the time? Is your stomach doing that painful scraping thing?? No one eating more than 1500 calories/day is ever actually hungry, unless they're running 10 miles a day. I think many people confuse cravings, boredom, or lack of fullness for "hunger." Because if you're eating a decent amount (say 1500 calories) and still feeling that painful scraping feeling in your stomach, you need to see a doctor. |
1500 calories a day isn’t a lot. Wasn’t there an Ancel Keys study during WWII where they restricted men’s calories to 1500 calories a day for six months, and they all went kind of crazy? |
Yes! This is why equating weight loss with being healthier is stupid. Cardio might not be helpful in terms of losing weight, but it is absolutely essential for good health! It’s good for your heart, and it’s the only thing we know of that helps ward off dementia! |
This is just true. My aunt is a hospitalist. She’s extremely fit and eats very nutritious food. I asked her if she ever speaks to her patients about their diet and she scoffed and said “I’m not a nutritionist!” |
Doctors and the medical system in general know very little about health, nutrition, and staying healthy. |
