What is "woke?" Conservative author tries to define it

Did her dumpster fire of an interview make it on to late night TV? I can see Colbert enjoying this.

I thought that language evolves?

Through propaganda??

Do you mean to say that if liberals decided to make the term conservative mean that someone is a worshipper of Satan you’d go along with it? Do you accept the new meaning of the word santorum? I do not but if you are saying that white conservative misuse of a term invented by African Americans means that language evolves, well you have to accept it in the other direction.

That was the standard reply when dictionaries updated the definitions of words to reflect current usage like "vaccine".

NP - What are you talking about? I know youre looking for conspiracies here but there’s no current usage of vaccine that’s different from previous uses. It’s always meant an injection to prevent disease

Google is your friend.

I googled “vaccine definition” and this is the first result:

A substance used to stimulate immunity to a particular infectious disease or pathogen, typically prepared from an inactivated or weakened form of the causative agent or from its constituents or products.

How is this some kind of new definition?

Try harder. Why is it such a controversial thing to say that dictionaries update definitions all the time? I thought this was common knowledge.

Hell, irregardless even became a real word because of its usage.

Correct, language does change and they update definitions all the time. Not arguing with you on that. Just wondering how the definition of vaccine has changed. Stop deflecting

You're quite lazy. Surprised this is news.

https://www.verifythis.com/article/news/verify/coronavirus-verify/cdc-changed-vaccine-definition-more-transparent/536-03ce7891-2604-4090-b548-b1618d286834

That’s the CDC. Not dictionaries. You stated that dictionaries changed the definition and now are trying to pass the CDC’s definition off as a dictionary definition.

Did you even read? It literally references a dictionary in the article.

Done with you, lazy.

Which one of Bethany’s friends are you btw?

Well if we are turning to the dictionary for answer, according to Merriam-Webster, the 1st meaning of the slang word woke is:
chiefly US slang
1
: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)

And the second meaning is:
2
disapproving : politically liberal (as in matters of racial and social justice) especially in a way that is considered unreasonable or extreme

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/woke

So it appears that woke more often is meant in the first meaning. And it's conservatives who use for the second, later meaning.

Sorry cons, when you use it as a pejorative, liberals receive it as a positive.

Basically cons and liberals are talking different languages. If you want people to understand then you'll have to translate.

Shes referring to Merriam-Webster tweaking the definition of vaccine to reflect RNA technology….which is new technology and that’s why they added the definition. Even Bethany isn’t this crazy and conspiratorial.

RNA technology is absolutely not new. Not at all. Developed in the 60s, well in use by the 90s. People not in biomedical engineering wouldn't have any reference to what it is or the understanding of it. In fact, in the early days of Covid, well before vaccines were a thing, those in research already knew how these vaccines would be developed.

NP... Use of RNA for vaccines also does not alter the concept of what a vaccine is.

For example, this definition:

a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease

It's a slight broadening of the definiton, not some radical rewrite.

What commonly-used word should we hijack to mean anti-woke,

politically conservative, in a way that is ignorant and insulting to matters of race, social justice, science, such as treatment of infectious disease or climate change, foreign policy and pretty much everything else, especially in a way that is considered unreasonable or extreme
Anonymous
Look, this is not hard.

Words, particularly those used as pejoratives as woke is intended, undergo redefinitions all the time. "F****t", "D**e", etc.

Sometimes the pejorative uses even supplant the pre-existing usages in terms of common understanding.

Those comebacks re: the "real" meaning of woke to Bethany are weak, her real problem is that she can't define the term in a coherent, non-self-owning way herself.

Nope. I know that the order of definitions in a dictionary means something about usage.
