What is "woke?" Conservative author tries to define it

Anonymous
I would define it as showing respect for other people.

So if you are anti-woke, then you display a lack of respect.

In every context the right uses it, it sort of works.

The people who demand extreme precision with firearm terminology are curiously uninterested in precision when it comes to terms like "woke" or "Critical Race Theory."

There is woke, and there is “woke”

Wokeness, originally meaning the ability to recognize and address injustice, increase empathy for others, and awareness of the world around them, is of course a good thing.

Unfortunately, it has come to mean something different. It has come to be associated with virtue signaling. Mob culture. Deplatforming. Cancel culture. Sanctimoniousness. And ironically, displays (sometimes violent!) of intolerance. Like what happened to Riley Gaines in San Francisco recently. It’s become pretty awful and doesn’t epitomize empathy at all. Even if you disagree with someone, you should be able to recognize their humanity and understand why they might have a different point of view. This is lost on many in the “woke mob” of today.

It’s come to mean this to the brainwashed yokels who live in right wing brain spaces, yes.

But who's getting deplatformed and canceled? It's the ones who deny, or worse yet, engage in and promote the injustice. And, the mob is reactionary. The mob is the people who've experienced bullying, but who've learned that they have strength in numbers to stand up against bullies. As for "virtue signaling" that's another dumb, cynical term invented by sociopathic right wing pundits who can't seem to fathom that yes, people might actually care about injustice and want to do something about it. But since they themselves are sociopaths they project their own sociopathy onto others and pretend it's all fake.

Also, regarding "you claim to be tolerant" refer to Popper's Paradox of Tolerance, and I think it's odd that you expect others to recognize your humanity and why you might have a different point of view when you don't extend the same to them.

Here’s the problem: you assume, that because I disagree about something, that it is because I do not recognize someone’s humanity. The fact that it’s so hard for you to imagine that I can fully see someone, see their humanity, love them, feel that they deserve respect and dignity, and yet disagree with them on something, shows something about you, not me.

Considering the contexts of many disagreements were the term “woke” is used, I have a hard time believing this. You care about trans children so much you want them gaslit or dead. You care about freedom of speech so much you want Hitler babies to have a platform.

Please provide one example where “your love” and “respect” for others has gotten you deplatformed.

Excellent.

I don’t feel any special pull toward being particularly respectful and kind to hateful people. I have no tolerance for people who hate LGBTQIA+ people. I have no patience whatsoever left for those who dehumanize women. I have nothing in the tank for people who seek to end my rights to vote. These people will destroy America, are trying to destroy America. And I am done pretending that they are at all decent.

Well, after spending all day tweeting about a Target boycott - because Matt Walsh said that some "tuck friendly" bikinis were "either for children or very small adults" it is now coming out per Target that those were adult size XS. Bethany has retweeted the politifact tweet and added no comment. Not a "Gee, I was wrong, I'm sorry." "I trusted the word of Matt Walsh who is borderline stupid." Just a retweet.

And she wonders why people hate her.

Woke means whatever you want it to mean. Even better, it can mean whatever your listener wants it to mean without you having to define it.

Instead of the future with flying cars, we got this one. I'm starting to feel a little salty about that.

Bethany, no one thinks little kids should have access to bathing suits where you can "tuck" your private parts. We just would try to determine if Target was actually selling them before definitively stating so, which your buddy Matt didn't do, and you took him at his word.

Also, are Republicans so effing fat that they can't tell an XS women's bathing suit from one intended for kids? lmfao. Lay off the pork rinds and Mountain Dew, MAGA. Today I learned that at 130 pounds and 5'5" I'm "child sized" according to Matt Walsh. Weird.

Hmmm this makes it seem like incredibly unpopular abortion bans and utter lack of gun control are the whole ones.
