I hope you are happier than we are. We were excited for our DD to go, but were very disappointed when she got there.

Why were you disappointed?

They are basically of the same caliber. One is just cheaper.

Maybe same caliber, but if you say that, then 97% of the schools mentioned on this site are the same caliber. FH has less kids, smaller classes, is k-12, and more diverse. PVI is more dominant in sports, not as expensive, and catholic. Both good schools, but very different.

She had two very week teachers; we found that unacceptable. On a positive note, many of the families were very welcoming.

Did you let the school know how you felt? What grades? Did the teachers have advanced degrees? Is you child still attending? Thanks in advance.

Did Sidwell deny FA?

No FA. Better program and my kids friend did same. Also aware of a girl who is turning down Sidwell for 9 for another private with less intensity. She is the kind of kid who will success wherever she goes.

Smart to have applied to so many schools.

Unless you have a major hook, you better apply to a wide variety.

That's probably good advice.

But it's also true that at some schools it's quite important that you make it clear (credibly) that they are your number one choice and that if accepted your DC will attend.

If they sense or know you are casting a wide net and that their chances of getting your DC to enroll if accepted are unknown, they will weigh that in their decision.

So casting a wide net is a two-edged sword.

Which schools?

They only have about 20 spots each year. I bet most go to subs and affiliations.

We got in to Beauvoir for pre-K. It’s much tougher for K. We were told that siblings preference is at prek when we asked about our 2nd child who is 1. Not sure if it’s siblings at K but it’s fewer slots for sure 20 compared to 68 in pre-K.
