You're reminding me that my nephew was rejected at top choice W and heading to UGA (and trying to convince himself that Athens will be ok, even though he loved Madison).

He'll love Athens and UGA, no doubt. Don't even sweat that.

Surprised that a kid who got into UGA would be rejected at Wisconsin. My impression is that UF and UGA passed Madison in academics a few years ago. But I guess there are always outliers. All three are great schools.

That's because you take your cues from USNWR. In the real world, Wisconsin is a great school (having largely rebounded from the Walker administration's malfeasance); UGA is a good and improving school; and UF is a good but rapidly deteriorating school (as DeSantis makes Walker look like a rank amateur when it comes to cutting down institutions of higher learning).

This is patently false. UF has been going nowhere but up in the rankings since De Santis became governor. There's probably no connection between those two things, but still it's far from "rapidly deteriorating."

You're looking at trailing indicators. It's been less than a year that DeSantis decided to run to the right of Trump and turned his state's higher ed into a whipping boy to advance those presidential dreams. The faculty with decent exit options are leaving--at all the Florida schools but especially at UF and (obviously) New College. Student satisfaction is through the floor. Yield is down this year. Apps will be down next year. So will enrolled student "stats." Regardless of whether you can see it (yet) in the almighty USNWR pecking order, UF has thrown it into reverse at high speed.

Is that what your nephew said? Or you went there? we walked the campus when we toured and it was fine. UMD also huge and I was in the best shape of my life. Plus weather is nice.

A family friend that is Jewish in DMV is leaning toward UF. They like that there’s a strong south Florida and NY contingency there and they seem to be on the rational side re handling of antisemitism. They are pretty moderate politically.
