It is hard to get into, It's a great school, it's the second best college town next to Boulder.
Go Dawgs

Great college town. Blows away College Park and Charlottesville in that category.

Love Athens. Love Boulder. Like Charlottesville a lot. Madison crushes them all, though. (I can see a skier preferring Boulder, of course, but town-for-town, it's no contest.)

You're reminding me that my nephew was rejected at top choice W and heading to UGA (and trying to convince himself that Athens will be ok, even though he loved Madison).

He'll love Athens and UGA, no doubt. Don't even sweat that.

Surprised that a kid who got into UGA would be rejected at Wisconsin. My impression is that UF and UGA passed Madison in academics a few years ago. But I guess there are always outliers. All three are great schools.

That's because you take your cues from USNWR. In the real world, Wisconsin is a great school (having largely rebounded from the Walker administration's malfeasance); UGA is a good and improving school; and UF is a good but rapidly deteriorating school (as DeSantis makes Walker look like a rank amateur when it comes to cutting down institutions of higher learning).

Last I checked W was in the 30s and UGA 50. UF is a joke, IMO. It was in the 50s not too long ago and now in the 30s. It will drop like a rock under current FL governor as even the faculty hate the school. OOS students will look elsewhere.

UF’s high ranking is based on UF students graduating with relatively low debt - not because of academics.

20% of the USNWR ranking is an "academic reputation" score based on a national faculty survey. UF's "academic reputation" score has risen largely lockstep with its overall USNWR rankings over the past dozen or so years...and it's about to get hammered.... (Properly so, BTW. Three years ago, I would have supported a kid going to UF. Today? Hard pass. Who wants to go to a school where faculty are under attack and trying to flee?)

The DeSanitizing of higher education in Florida has been ramping up alarmingly since the majority of those apps were submitted. Come back when you have yield stats.

This thread is so odd to me. Do that many people want to go to U of Georgia? I would have never know!

This is patently false. UF has been going nowhere but up in the rankings since De Santis became governor. There's probably no connection between those two things, but still it's far from "rapidly deteriorating."
