and was the Kevin McCarthy of 1855 victorious? |
| There was a rumor they would put Tom Cole of Oklahoma on the third round. He's conservative but not as crazy as the rest of them. |
The majority of the House Republicans don’t want to do that. They really have no interest in actually governing. |
There were a lot of contenders, so the situation is not analogous. It took them two months then. This shouldn't take as long. |
| Go ahead and default on the debt ceiling now too |
Why would Cole want the Speakership? Herding rabid honey badgers isn’t a job for a normal human. |
"Hey I have an idea - let's put up someone that most Americans never even heard of!" |
Kevin is singularly vapid: |
I think the majority of house republicans want to try to use their majority to showboat, hold hearings, etc. McCarthy would be happy to let them do that. But there are these 19 who actually think they can use the debt ceiling and government shutdowns to repeal Social Security, Medicare, and the rest of the "leviathan." The majority don't believe that because it is insane. (Many of them would like to repeal this stuff, but they realize this tactic is nuts). That's the fundamental disagreement here. |
Most Americans are only passingly familiar with most Republican MOCs. |
|
GOP clown show. And the Dems are enjoying the hell out of it. They even brought popcorn.
https://twitter.com/tedlieu/status/1610316616679530497 One thing is clear in all of this - the GOP may have a majority of seats, but they DO NOT have a mandate to govern, they DO NOT have a mandate to push their agenda. |
| I think moving his stuff in the office was just no bueno |
He is currently nominating McCarthy for the third round. |
Why would the Democrats get sick of it? For them it's a comedy show. It's the Republicans who keep failing and being humiliated. I can see Republicans as far more likely to be demoralized by all of this. |
| McCarthy vs. House Freedom Caucus, with Jordan ostensibly backing McCarthy, is bunkers. |
