The GOP has no grownups in the room. All the grownups have quit over the last few years. Best of luck to the remaining toddlers.

Pretty much

A shot for every round of voting?

At some point they will adjourn and then lots of deal making will happen, and then you'll get a new slate without McCarthy (Scalise, Stefanik?) or a McCarthy deal with the Dems.

I'm not sure there is any person in the world who can satisfy the 19 no votes and the rest of the Republican caucus. The no votes want someone who will promise to burn it all down and the rest of them won't accept that person. So the only way someone wins that majority is successfully lying to one of those two groups.

Pp here. Interesting. Thx.
Hard to see McCarthy giving up at this point. It’s all he’s debased himself for. But a deal with the democrats!?!

I agree with John Kassick—moderate republics should join the dems and elect Jeffries. This crap show is a sign of what’s to come. So they should end this.

Watching McCarthy laugh and make a show of not being bothered is really weird. Dude, you're being humiliated.

Rule No. 1 about being Speaker is don't bring the bill to the floor unless you know you have the votes.

I realize someone needs to be Speaker but it was never going to be you.

Last time this happened it went 9 rounds, so they'll keep going until they chip away at those 19 anti-voters, or until enough Democrats get sick of this and go home, shifting the majority low enough for McCarthy to win.

133 ballots in 1855.

What moderate Republicans? Are there any left? Because you know that they will be primaried from the right, in two years.

All Dems will vote present if he agrees to a rules package that:
- Allows Jeffries to bring to a floor vote any bill passed by the Senate
- Takes away committee assignments from everyone who voted against McCarthy on the first round

Agreeing to that would cost him the republican votes that he has right now

They wouldn't know until after the vote. The problem though is McCarthy is not trustworthy.

There are scant moderate Republicans anywhere anymore and none in the House. I think no one is left from the ten who voted to impeach Trump after January 6.

No humiliation too small for Kevin.

The Klan-adjacent dude is peak Republicanism.

He would need 6 Republicans to defect and vote for him.

They could leave and not vote. He could get a majority then.

So happy that McCarthy is having a split between the sane and crazy GOP.

Or Fred Upton, or Liz Cheney...all they need over the next two years is to reauthorize spending, Ukraine and debt ceiling. The rest of it is noise.
