They weren't with the coffin during the procession from Westminster to Windsor -- my guess is they were quickly whisked to somewhere to stop, eat, drink, use the bathroom, and have a few moments out of the cameras before they they rejoined the procession outside Windsor. And at least this service is much shorter and they largely just have to sit and watch.

They were all in cars from westminster to windsor. I was watching the kids. they were on the entire time. no break.

They raised the standard when Charles got to Windsor, which was well before the hearse arrived. I guess they took the direct route.

+1, you could see from all the aerial shots of the hearse that the royal family's cars were not with it. And then when the family rejoined the procession at Windsor, they didn't come out of their cars -- they just joined it after the hearse entered the grounds through the Cambridge Gate, I think.

I think I missed something: why did they walk a long way with the coffin and then put it in a hearse to drive it somewhere?

The new Princess of Wales should share her secret on how to have well-mannered children and it should be mandatory reading for all American parents!

“You won’t be king if you misbehave”

They didn’t bring the youngest.

All the American coverage is annoying. Why are they bothering? Why doesn't American news focus on Hurricane Fiona and Puerto Rico or really anything that has actual consequences for the U.S.?

This isn't an "I hate the monarchy" thing. I mean, I do think it's stupid, but I also like the odd bit of pageantry, especially if hats and flowers are involved. But I can't believe how much coverage is devoted to it.

This thread is about the Queen and if the American media ignored it that would be very strange. After all, we have been friends for her whole reign. You don't like it? Too bad and stop commenting on something YOU find annoying.

Hire a Norland nanny and Grandma Carol.

I think they were very well behaved but, their role is different from regular Americans and so different standards are required. After all, Louis proved they are human and sometimes "misbehaved" as well. American parents do NOT need the Royals to school them on parenting.

+1, they also did not do it on their own, come on. Both George and Charlotte have nannies as well as people who work with them specifically on manners and protocol for just this reason. If Princess Catherine wants to lend me one of these experts to train up my 5 year old before we attend a wedding later this year, it would be welcome. But a lecture on what a bad mom I am because my child is normal child and not royal princess? No thank you, I'm good.

I'm guessing they've had a lot more practice than most kids. There again, Louis is still working on these skills, so it's not like they are perfect.

You can't deny the historical proportion of this funeral. They have not had such a big funeral since the 1700s.

Which I find odd since they buried another monarch (her father) just 70-some years ago. And his father before him and so on.

Exactly. Was her father’s funeral not a big deal?

They did not reign for 70 years. That's the difference.

The length of reign does not matter. Of course, the state funeral for George IV ,was every bit as big a deal, maybe more so because he was still relatively young and his death, like Diana's, was unexpected. If Charles died next week his funeral would be the same.

The other huge difference is today's media as opposed to 1952.

Agree, the children were exemplary. Princess Charlotte even knew how to smooth her coat beneath her to sit on it without crushing it, as she took her seat in the car leaving the chapel. Many an adult does't know that.

Not to be contrarian though--OK, it's definitely contrarian--I wish they would retire the title Prince of Wales. It's rooted in centuries of subjugation of the Welsh. Titles based on actual landholdings (like Duke of Cornwall or Duke of Westminster) or on landless honors (like Earl of Wessex) are one thing, but Prince of Wales isn't that. Yes, we have relatives in Wales, and they find it an annoyed eye-roll at best, and truly offensive at worst.

Yes to Charles, maybe to William and probably not for George

William and Harry (when not in uniform) have also been wearing blue suits this entire time, while the women have worn black. It’s clearly some sort of protocol.

Then why black pants and blue jacket for George?
Charlotte is just the cutest. Proud parents for sure.

Have your eyes checked. George is wearing a navy blue suit.

I'm guessing Louis had a great day hanging out and playing....

Charlotte's hat. It's quite the step for her.

I think the kids' behavior shows the "born and bred" part of their lives. Such a tough day for the entire family.

Yes. Boy, the British really know how to do these right.

They do church services really well. The choir, unsurprisingly, is amazing.

I was at a church in DC yesterday for a baptism and the choir was amazing and sang God Save the King and the preacher spoke about his service to the Queen. Is there some connection with the embassy maybe?

I think Princess Anne might have stayed with the coffin the whole way as she has since Balmoral.
