| With Putnam gone (and in spectacular fashion), it clears the way for Commander Lawrence’s New Bethlehem plan to bring “traitors, criminals, and terrorists” back into Gilead. Perhaps this is June and Luke’s way back to Hannah. |
I have not watched HT at all as reading the book was enough to terrify me. Having read the book, I don't see how there could be give seasons. Are they writing new material? |
Yes, new material. And season 6 will be the final season. |
| How did Lawrence become powerful enough to take down Putnam for something that most commanders have probably done? Including Nick - June was not in a position to consent. I was under the impression that Lawrence was on the outs within Gilead leadership. |
As far as I know, the other commanders don’t know about Nick fathering Nicole. Unless I missed something. Lawrence was well-respected for his role in establishing Gilead’s economy, so they tolerated his eccentricities. And the commanders who were trying to push him out are now dead. He just outplayed them. |
+1. And while I am certainly not going to defend the practices of Gilead - there are rules. Putnam has already had half his arm removed for his sexual activities with Janine outside of the ceremony. And Putnam AND Waterford tried to blow that off too. It was Nick's mentor (IIRC) that shut down Waterford's minimizing Putnam's conduct in that instance. Now whether the above turns on how popular you are as a Commander, I'm sure it does. But they will enforce the rules when it suits them. |
| All of you are making me understand that I don’t remember much about the previous seasons and will be hopelessly lost in season 5. Was thinking of giving it a pass anyway (too many repetitive plotlines) and now I’m thinking about that even more. Carry on! |
Yep. You could see it all coming a mile away. I’m sure there will have to be something “harrowing” to prevent it, but they should just drive to the border and call Tuello. |
|
She's in labor, too! |
| I can see somehow June + Serena somehow turn New Bethlehem into a nation run by women, anti men. June will recruit Aunt Lydia, Janine and the Handmaids and Serena will recruit Naomi and maybe the Plums. Nick and Lawrence will be their armies. It will wind up being just as bad. There will be some kind of Sophies choice and June will need to chose between Luke and Hannah and will sacrifice Luke to get Hannah back, who probably won't appreciate it. |
What are you smoking? |
| What is New Bethlehem? I must have missed it. |
Lawrence’s plan to open the borders, bring back refugees, forgive them, and reintegrate them into Gilead all to appease other countries so they can establish things like trade agreements. Or at least that’s what he said. He could have his own motivations — like toppling the government he helped create. |
Thank you! |
| I feel like you all are seeing More episodes than me. Is there a new episode somewhere to watch after Serena shoots Ezra and then she and June drive off? |
