Offended over hand-me-downs

It's not about the clothes. People don't share because they are penny-pinchers -- they do it because they like people. I guess no one has liked you enough to offer you hand-me-downs from their children.

Darling, my family and friends know better than to wear hand me downs from their children. If you like people, buy them something new. Frugality is not always admired. Go fetch.

Oh, I’m sorry you’re so insecure. I hope you feel better soon.

I love getting hand me downs for my kids. They grow out of things so fast and usually they’re the type of clothes I would have bought anyway. I always pass the clothes my kids have outgrown on too and people seem very happy to get them (I do ask first and usually have multiple takers.) I can well afford new clothes for my kid but it’s the environmentally friendly thing to do and it makes sense.

Um, hello, we are in the top 1% in the US and I would gladly take hand-me-downs.

One of my values is living as sustainably as possible. Since kids outgrow their clothes so quickly, better made clothes will still have plenty of life left.

Also, another one of my values is not wasting money. Assuming the clothes are cute etc., why would I turn them down?

But see, I also don't hang out with country club people (we do belong to the club where we own our second home because it allows us to ski and swim, but at home we use an inexpensive neighborhood pool), so maybe that's where PP and I have diverged.

Hi, it’s me. I’m UMC and I wouldn’t be offended—at all. I believe in saving money (especially on kids’ clothes, which are outgrown so fast) and making the environmentally friendlier option that is re-using clothes. That said, I always ask first if people want something and never assume, because if you assume and hand someone something they do not want, you are literally trying to hand them a chore.

Well said.

Ahh, DCUM never fails. Virtue signal and humblebrag in one post, lol.

You were presumptuous, that's what offended her.
