Are conservatives boycotting Disney now?

Anonymous
Like all things Republican this is theater, lowest bar crap designed to rev up the bigoted base. Disney has more risk n that the lgbt community is mad about Disney not doing more. They spend money.

The reality is that conservatives do not have much market power. They are hoping to create an illusion that they do. They are hoping that as Disney drops from the far left boycotting, fewer subscribers because the pandemic is over and frustration over Genie/ increased prices/long lines etc, they can claim that the drop was from conservative boycotts. As republicans care nothing about facts it won’t matter that it isn’t true. These are small nasty little people hoping to create an illusion that they are larger.

I live in Fl and am the parent of a Disney employee (who happens to be gay) and everyone I know, regardless of political leanings, is going 'wut????'

Like, this is nuts. Won't help anybody. For such a 'pro business' governor, this is really bad for business.

We got bigger fish to fry here. As a taxpayer, I don't want to inherit the Reedy Creek improvement district.

What an insightful and intelligent observation!

Yes, it was. It's the truth. DP

It would be if they were actually boycotting in large numbers, but as always, they talk big on Facebook and are full.of crap in real life. Remember when they were going to boycott Target so hard it drove them out of business over no longer labeling boy/gurl toy aisles and bathrooms? LOL!

Disney has a huge socially conservative clientele, here and abroad, you can bet they're going to cater to it, while virtue signaling to try and keep their more progressive employees reasonably compliant. It's a struggle between progressive Hollywood, and paying customers. Disney management is used to threading a fine line between the two. It's done so for decades. The previous CEO was more progressive than usual, so that's why there's now a little reframing going on with this CEO, who doesn't want to stick his neck out quite as much. It will blow over.

How interesting that you think Disney is “catering” to conservatives but “virtue signaling” to progressives. I don’t see it.

PP you replied to. Because it is. I don't care either way, just so you know. But you should all realize that Disney is never going to be a progressive company. Most of its customers are socially conservative. So that's what Disney is going to sell, with a sprinkling of counter-examples it can point to when it's accused of not being woke enough.

There is NO WAY DeSantis is actually going to move against Disney long term - he would damage his own state's tourism.

It also might be that this was simply a bridge too far for Disney, despite its conservative leanings.

See, I actually think that DeSantis is that stupid. Time will tell I guess!

Disney movies/shows are starting to introduce gay characters. This is going to blow Desantis' and the uber conservatives' collective minds.

Sorry, but I don’t want my kids seeing gay kisses in Disney movies.

Cool. Then remove all the straight kisses too, and any references to straight relationships.

Simple.

Why aren’t you seeing how Disney stock is plummeting? Wake up.

Stop parroting ignorant Right Wing propaganda (the repeated use of the game word"plummeting" is a tell, just FYI). it's temporary while people throw temper tantrum until the market corrects. The stock will rebound just fine.

Hey, male candlesticks must kiss only female teapots, and female lion cubs must kiss only male lion cubs, otherwise the children will be corrupted forever. How do you not know this?

But they said some pretty sick s*** so it’s less about “not supporting them” and more about being an actual parent to my kids and keeping them away from groomers.

You're not smart enough to parent kids. Sad.

I don't think many people are mad about internal emails sent to employees denouncing the education bill. Many parents are mad about the video with the producer bragging about adding queerness to children's programming. Disney had built up a lot of trust among parents for producing wholesome entertainment suitable for innocent children. I would imagine they want to send a message about that. I know people who have canceled Disney plus. I never subscribed but at friends' houses I've seen their new stuff and frankly it looks depressing. If I'm putting on a movie for my little children I want it to be joyful.

Inclusivity IS joyful. You're just ignorant.

Well there is already a lot of push back against the crazy right in the schools. Not many people agree with your world view.

Maybe if you left your woke echo chamber, you would see that "not many" people is actually 50% of this country.

Oops! You said "woke." Your dumb is showing.

I know this will land nowhere with people who are hell bent on hating the gays, but whatever. My kid came out to me two years ago. She was scared and crying. I said girl, you be you. I love her and have zero issue with her being gay. When she sees ANY gay character, Disney or otherwise, lead or supporting, main story or not, she LIGHTS UP. She feels seen and heard and included in life. So PP, you absolutely nailed it when you said inclusion is joyful. I wish more of you anti-gay folks actually could see the kids you’re harming. They just want to be happy, just like you do. And it makes them happy to see themselves represented.

That’s why DeSantis going this hard at a company for daring to say gay people matter is pure evil.

The media also criticized DeSantis for not shutting down beaches, keeping schools open and not requiring masks. Turns out he was right. Doubt what the media is sharing on this is the true story.
