Are conservatives boycotting Disney now?

Why do you think this would have any impact on that?

Oh, please, you know how many of those fatass scooters have Trump stickers on them? A lot.

I don’t recall seeing anything political in Disney World. It’s a violation of their policies.

I don't think many people are mad about internal emails sent to employees denouncing the education bill. Many parents are mad about the video with the producer bragging about adding queerness to children's programming. Disney had built up a lot of trust among parents for producing wholesome entertainment suitable for innocent children. I would imagine they want to send a message about that. I know people who have canceled Disney plus. I never subscribed but at friends' houses I've seen their new stuff and frankly it looks depressing. If I'm putting on a movie for my little children I want it to be joyful.

Inclusivity IS joyful. You're just ignorant.

I know this will land nowhere with people who are hell bent on hating the gays, but whatever. My kid came out to me two years ago. She was scared and crying. I said girl, you be you. I love her and have zero issue with her being gay. When she sees ANY gay character, Disney or otherwise, lead or supporting, main story or not, she LIGHTS UP. She feels seen and heard and included in life. So PP, you absolutely nailed it when you said inclusion is joyful. I wish more of you anti-gay folks actually could see the kids you’re harming. They just want to be happy, just like you do. And it makes them happy to see themselves represented.

That’s why DeSantis going this hard at a company for daring to say gay people matter is pure evil.

My heart breaks for all the kids like your daughter who are being used as disgusting political bait by DeSantis. Being a kid is hard enough.

Tip for parents of gay kids:

We’ve found our squad on cruises—particularly Disney cruises.

Tons of crew members are gay. The cruise ship industry has provided a safe haven for gay staff for decades—particularly for folks who hail from countries that don’t tolerate the lgbtq community.

When we recently cruised with Disney, we noticed several gay families and gay teens/young adults. Plus, the atmosphere is just upbeat and positive.

FWIW.

You doubt that the bill passed, and that it won't take effect until 2025, after midterms?

I doubt how the media is describing the bill. From reading the legislation, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Now from hearing about it on TV, I would.

You say that like DeSantis actually knew something more than other governors or authorities. That's a joke. Lots of people died in Florida because of covid but he really didn't care. He probably figured lots of people die in Florida all the time. He's an expert at pandering to his dimwitted base.

Lol. I’d bet my house all the old hags on rascals are trump supporters.

Didn't read the whole thread.
Kids are preteens and we've never been to Disney. Not been a must-do for us though Disney seems cool.
Also, the thought of all the crowds seems repulsive.
But if this boycott results in significantly lowering the crowds, we will definitely plan a trip.

How interesting that you think Disney is “catering” to conservatives but “virtue signaling” to progressives. I don’t see it.

PP you replied to. Because it is. I don't care either way, just so you know. But you should all realize that Disney is never going to be a progressive company. Most of its customers are socially conservative. So that's what Disney is going to sell, with a sprinkling of counter-examples it can point to when it's accused of not being woke enough.

There is NO WAY DeSantis is actually going to move against Disney long term - he would damage his own state's tourism.

I don't think you have any evidence for the assertion that "most of customers are socially conservative."

This hysteria from Fox "News" hardly supports your assertion about "virtue signaling." That phrase suggests empty symbolic gestures, not a "left-wing agenda." https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/disney-left-wing-activism-environment-fear-workers

I mean, Disney has been unabashedly pro-LGBTQ for years. https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2014/04/its-not-just-frozen-disney-has-always-been-subtly-pro-gay/361060/

I often wonder who the poster is who makes claims like the socially conservative one. Given all the news from Disney execs themselves, where can a statement like that come from? Seems like thin air.

It also might be that this was simply a bridge too far for Disney, despite its conservative leanings.

See, I actually think that DeSantis is that stupid. Time will tell I guess!

Disney movies/shows are starting to introduce gay characters. This is going to blow Desantis' and the uber conservatives' collective minds.

Sorry, but I don’t want my kids seeing gay kisses in Disney movies.

Then don't watch. Problem solved.

I don't like watching/hearing Trump speak, so I don't watch him when he's on the news. See? Easy.

When social media companies ban Disney, you’ll have a leg to stand on

I did. I live in Florida. My kid is directly affected by this. It's written in that lovely legalese that's nice and vague for folks, and admittedly it requires a little bit of reading between the lines. But no worry, DeSantis has been quite vocal about what the law is designed to do. No wading through the legalese is even necessary to figure out what the intent is. He's let everyone know what the end game is. They aren't shy about letting us all know what their goals are. Maybe you should listen to them actually speak about how they want this law used and if you then read the law with their actual, spoken, enumerated intentions in mind, you'll see that it's all allowable under this law. It's lipstick on a pig.

Perhaps equally problematic is the swift, negative consequences that are coming crashing down on a company for daring to disagree with him on this. THAT'S what's happening. You can bury your head in the sand all you want, but ignorance is no excuse for people like you.
