In my head, Jonah shot one of the parents instead of the PI. I mean, technically they left it open so I'm going with that. Because the actual ending was terrible. I was waiting for the red-headed cousin to come out and shoot the sister before she shot Ruth. That would have been a much better ending. Rednecks prevail over a powerful drug cartel. I didn't even care what happened to the Byrdes by the point. |
| I wish the old guy (he lived in the basement, owned the house) was still alive. He could've been such a wildcard and a great twist to the storylines. |
The previous season where he was having sex with Wendy just like she did in the video with the guy who killed himself. |
Yes I agree. When Jonah shut his eyes I just thought - he's shooting Wendy. And I agree about Three saving Ruth. That would have been my preference. |
Agree! That would have been a better ending. We are all so sick of the bad guys winning in life we don’t need to see it on tv too. We have been in a CD pandemic and are escape tv is supposed to give us a little hope |
| I think this was likely the most “realistic” ending. Even if Ruthie or her cousin killed the cartel head, someone else would have stepped in and eventually killed her. I don’t know why the PI hadn’t left and gone to the police instead of waiting around to confront the Byrde’s. Sorta dumb know what they were capable of. |
There was so much extra plot crammed into those last 4 episodes, yes, anything is possible. |
Well it came up in the finale…. I guess… |
That guy didn't kill himself. He was thrown out the window by the cartel. |
|
I just finished the last episode. I wasn't happy but I was satisfied I guess.
I agree that all the Wendy and Marty maneuvering was over the top, but I feel like it was symbolic of their fate - they will always have to be one step ahead and looking over their shoulder. Ruth - I'll be the outlier, but Ruth's story ended as it should have. The entire series Ruth has been struggling to move beyond her roots, but at the same time she never really wanted to. The scene where she sees her father, uncle, and Wyatt - she was half gone. Was it sad to lose her? Yes. Was it the right conclusion for her character? Also yes. Who did Jonah shoot? Tough one, but I think Jonah shot the detective. The Byrdes are one messed up family, but they are a family. Remember Charlotte telling Jonah it's ok if some part of him wants to go to the gala? More than one part of him wanted to go. I think it ended as it should have overall. |
No the Byrdes were trying to survive. The cartell gave them no choice, which was reflected in all of the decisions they made. I agree Jonah shot the detective. He basically became a mini-Marty, and Charlotte a mini-Wendy. Weird about the accident as it turned out to be just a distraction and a complete non-event. It lead to nothing. |
Seeing the accident created a dramatic tension for the audience - which is exactly why they did it. Once we got past the accident the events of the story were starting to ramp up in terms of danger - so it was the perfect turning point. |
| I'm crushed about Ruth's end and grew to despise Marty by the end (who was my favorite character, tied with Ruth, for most of the series). |
Totally! Did you see how the kids dressed when they had to bail the parents out? Mini versions of the parents! I also feel Wendy is exactly like her father ... when they want something they will go over dead bodies (here literally). |
|
This season could have done fine without Wendy’s dad (John Boy Walton!) and the PI storyline.
Wasn’t it definitely the PI who was shot by Jonah? Didn’t he keel over? Not gonna rewatch it. I just figure the Byrds are going to keep on Byrding with Camilla and Co. |
