I like the Camilla and Wendy kill each other angle, and Ruth surviving. But, I would have had Marty be an evil mastermind all along and take over the cartel with Jonah and Ruth his right hand deputies. Then he orders a hit and takes out all the head FBI folks. Final scene is him sitting on his cartel throne making a deal with Purdue pharma for heroin shipments.

Ooh, very Breaking Bad.

The thing that I had trouble with was the fact that Ruth was way too smart to have gotten out of her car when she saw the black SUV in her driveway. It just wasn't her character to naively get out of the car, walk over to the SUV and say hello. She would've seen that vehicle and fled in my opinion. Plus she knew the territory much better than they did. I just couldn't believe she stuck around. When they were face to face I envisioned one of Omar's hitmen taking out Camila before she could shoot Ruth. Oh well!

Very late to this party but I finally finished watching today and completely agree with all of this, and with this earlier comment below…

The entire series Ruth has been struggling to move beyond her roots, but at the same time she never really wanted to. The scene where she sees her father, uncle, and Wyatt - she was half gone. Was it sad to lose her? Yes. Was it the right conclusion for her character? Also yes.

Ruth had a bit of a death wish. With everything she was doing to be successful and get clean, she couldn’t let her family and background go. There was no way someone in her right mind would have driven in, seen the Escalade, parked and gone right up to it. She should have done exactly what she told Rachel to do and did to Nelson just one or two episodes before. Or at least driven away as soon as she saw the Escalade in her driveway. She accepted the inevitable instead of fighting back.

Someone mentioned that there was no way the Byrdes could have warned Ruth and that’s a lot for the show to expect me to accept. All they had to do was tell casino security to tell her not to go home or have someone escort her wherever.

I absolutely think Jonah shot the cop/PI. Interesting to hear others’ takes on it, though.

Does anyone remember how/why Rachel disappeared early on? When we saw her in Miami I was shocked because I thought she had died.

Is the latest season even worth watching? I watched the first episode and it just seemed to have jumped the shark. Wayyyyyyy too cringe with the boy running her laundering and the sheriff.

I was a bit tired of it by the 4th season which is why we didn’t watch the last batch right away. But I did want to find out what happened. There’s some good stuff there although the first two were better IMO.

Very much agree... However, her dad was somewhat her equal. His acting was awesome when drinking.

It was an interesting arc for Wendy's character. In the beginning, she was pissed at Marty for being pulled in/wanted out, but then SHE got greedy and wanted to keep going eventhough Marty finally had a chance to get the whole family out, and at the end Wendy was the total monster trying to keep going.

Breaking Bad had a similar arc. Walter had the chance to get out. He had finally pulled in enough money (which was his original purpose), but it was always just "one more time" that suckered him to keep going until he reached crazy mo ster level.

Very male focused. The best part of Ozark, IMO, is that the women dominate the men in every arena. Wendy, Ruth, Darlene and Camilla all take out their male foes. Marty was never going to win this… he’s still standing bc of Wendy’s brains and courage.
