We've screwed up every military campaign for over a generation now -- regardless of whether or not the intervention was justified. What's going to make an American intervention in the Ukraine any different?
Putin is going to do what he wants to do. |
Why don’t we just seize Russian oligarch assets in Palm Beach, NYC, and Belgravia? |
The US isnt going to intervene in Ukraine. But we, and the rest of the world, will impose consequences if Russia chooses to invade. The choice is yours. You can get with this or you can get with that. |
Because they haven't done anything yet. If they do then we might. It's a staring contest. |
If those "consequences" to which you refer actually had enough teeth, there wouldn't be any talk about a massive military buildup in eastern Europe -- a buildup that will inevitably include American troops. |
I don’t get it. NATO doesn’t even want Ukraine to join. China is the existential threat. We should be a quasi - ally of Russia like we were in WW2.
The DC crew is really stupid. As soon as Trump leaves they screw literally everything up in a year. |
US - $69,000 Canada - $53,000 Russia - $11,000 So: Russia's GDP per capita is about 21% of Canada's and about 16% of ours. |
I’m no fan or hater if Russia. But Russia doesn’t want to be our friend or ally. It doesn’t fit their domestic politics at all. And it never will. |
They have China on their border. It’s symbiotic reality. We are a less ruthless or dangerous adversary. |
Kicking them off SWIFT should do the trick. |
I agree that the US has no good options wrt Ukraine. A military buildup can play into Putin’s hands, give him the reason to just rip the bandaid off and move in. Is he playing rope a dope? Not sure. We have no significant ground footprint available and our air power advantage can be significantly neutralized through Russia’s very capable IADS. Who has more to lose? Again I don’t know. Everyone suddenly beating the war-drums is worrisome and foolish.
Stick with the diplomatic and economic sanctions, leave the military out of this, the resulting death is not worth it. |
We are just reinforcing the defensive positions of our NATO allies that border Ukraine and demonstrating that we are not going to offer them as sacrificial tribute like Russia demands. Whether or not the consequences are enough is a choice for Russia to find out. We are not threatening war or demanding anything. The choice is yours alone. |
We'd be happy to do that but Russia is the one making the threats. If they want to be a pariah, destroy their economy and sacrifice their children there is nothing we can do about that. Ukraine doesn't want to join Russia. Bulgaria and Romania dont want to join Russia either. Ukraine is not going to dissolve itself and NATO is not going to disband. |
This. I cannot even fathom how fast the wheels came off as soon as the Biden clownshow took over. 366 days in and we’re seriously contemplating a war with Russia. UFB. And China IS going for Taiwan, probably in April. They see the chaos and for them, this is THE moment to strike. They’ll never have a better opportunity than right now. All brought to the world by Joe. |
Do you know what China refers to eastern Russia as? They call it “the northern resource area”. |
