Anybody watch hbo documentary about LI woman who drove wrong way/crashed...

Called "Something's Wrong with Aunt Diane", about the woman who drove the wrong way on the LI Expressway and killed 8 people, including 5 children...was later found to have drugs/alcohol in her system. I literally feel sick to my stomach. It was brutal. Don't know why I watched it. Wonder if anyone else saw it.

I didn't see it but I remember that story. So was she a closeted alcoholic? Her husband and family swears she wasn't. Was there a medical reason for her condition?

I saw a Dateline snippet on it. I was happy to see the mom who lost her children was expecting. The actual documentary though, nope, no way, couldn't watch it.

I read the article in the post. That was enough for me. We don't HBO any more so watching wasn't an option for me.

No way, can't watch.

But what was the "documentary" angle?

Saw it. So good. Buti believe the simplest explanation which is that she was a closet alcoholic and there was prob something wrong with her marriage.

It made me so angry. Basically deflecting blame from this murderer. She was a sick person who devastated families.

I watched it and then spent the night obsessing about it. I couldn't stop thinking about all the "what ifs." It's truly one of the most bizarre and horrific accidents. There was clearly so much going on there that nobody knew about and the fact that she had 5 small children in the car with her is very difficult to process.

I would probably have watched if I had known it was on. I remember when it happened & how the details started to emerge after the accident. And I was just thinking about this story the other day for some reason - weird.

you sure read a lot into it... not my take at all from what I saw, a horrific situation but "murderer" is way beyond what any of the evidence or forensic psychiatric profile supports ... if anything it was the family deflecting blame; the more knowledgeable experts clearly laid out the facts of an probably unintentional, but devastatingly horrific situation with the basis in who-knows-what facts.

You seem awfully judgmental given all the unknowables that were clearly laid out ... it's OK to be appalled and horrified ... less so to jump to a conclusion like "murderer" (which requires intent).

I haven't watched the documentary but read a lot about the situation in the news.. I wouldn't personally say murderer but as a mom who can drink a bit but know never ever to drive- I would say she was criminal- if she knows she is driving kids? well- I guess she was murderer- she had a chance to not to drink- not to take kids in her car- she is the ultimate despicable being by not only taking her own kids (and no on purpose- which would not be be good enough regardless)..

I've been known to throw a few back and would NEVER get into a car with children. Ever. That is why I could almost believe the theory that some other pain was making her crazy.

Haven't seen the documentary but her husband has filed a suit against the state of New York for not having proper road signs and his brother-in-law the father of the three girls who were killed b/c he owned the mini van the drunk woman was driving. WTF!

Here is an article written by the mom of the 3 girls who died. I didn't see the documentary but had followed the story. So hard to understand why someone so responsible would do something so irresponsible.
