Wow. Sounds like BSC has a complete team full of talents. I don’t think talented players would want to join jus to sit on the bench.

Good teams will always have battles for starting positions. Most talented players welcome the competition. So does a coach of a top team. And if the parents know what's good for DC, they would welcome the competition. What is not healthy is an 18 player roster...

Sounds like they are fine as long as the CM is there according to her Dad's posts.

Oh, thank God the girl is healed now. The Bethesda excuses can now end. One player is responsible for a 25 goal differential swing.

LOL Pretty deep team if one player is so pivotal.

ECNL was -6 GD. Scrimmages/Friendlies are what they are.

Yes, missing a CM with a high IQ will certainly affect your goal output. Some players fit positions better than others.

Sounds more like a one trick pony team with zero depth. But then again, they are just scrimmages aren't they Dad.

There are a lot moms posting on here.

LOL I am sure your DD wants some competition for her spot. I bet you recruit players for your DD’s positions?

I'm not in control of that but it comes with the territory of playing for an ECNL club. If somebody can take her spot, so be it, but she would work hard to try and prevent it.

No sure why you keep calling me her dad. I'm not. It's just the truth and anyone with a soccer IQ understands how much a good Center Mid means to a team. It's not rocket science.

And when that does happen it is always the "politics of the shiny new player." LOL

Here is a bit of perspective on coaches adding new players to established competitive teams. Coaches do not add bench players, they add starters. What you don't understand is the player isn't coming in to battle your DD for the position, the player is coming in to replace your DD, and your DD's sub is now going to be off the team.

If a player gets an offer from a team after tryout, do they say he/she is a starter or not?

(We are in an average travel team so they only say she made the team and nothing else since everyone pretty much has equal playing time. I’m curious how very competitive teams do it when we tryout for a competitive team.)

The question that any parent will ask on their players behalf before accepting an offer is "what will my daughters role on the team be?" If the player is a starter the coach will say, "your daughter will be an immediate impact player.

If your daughter tries out and is merely just as good as a sub they will not get an offer.

With current dilution what it is teams can certainly strengthen weak benches but unless moving up a league a player usually is not interested in a bench spot since, because of the same dilution there is likely a starting job out there to be had.

So, for the most part, any new player is a going to be a walk on starter. Enjoy.

Since tryout are in April/May and the season doesn’t start until August/September, I assume coaches haven’t decided who are the starter until late Summer. Hence, the my question if a club/team would tell you if your DD is a starter or not prior to accepting the offer.

Coaches know their players. If the team is being handed off to a new coach that is different but if the coach is the same then the coach has a pretty good idea of where the new kid slots in. The coach will not announce to you beyond the offer. It is really up to the parent to ask some questions. If a kid is moving from one ECNL team to another a parent is going to want to know their kids role on the team before accepting the offer. If moving from a EDP to a ECNL team a parent may just assume to shut up and take the offer.

Bottom line most top teams will generally look to add starters unless they are losing kids and just need to keep the roster held to numbers. Every situation is different but I am assuming a TOP team adding a player.

If you are trying out for McLean I would ask if my kid is even going to be rostered. They have up to 30 kids per ECNL team. If you think I'm lying go and check the website. You don't have to be good to make their teams but if you want to get to play.... well that's another story

Yup. Bottom line, always ask what your kids role will be.

Wow. This is just so wrong. A player might not get to play at all then.

Yes but every one of their players end up at t25 d1 programs...even the ones on the bench. It is well worth the money and not playing in games from u13-u17 is the best thing for players.

Total BS. Total. And if you think the same players sitting on the bench for two years could not get scholarships while playing on the field elsewhere, either you are out of your mind or your statement alone shows how poorly college coaches select players.
