PDA left ECNL. ECNL back filled their ranks with trash clubs. PDA and Stars coming back doesn't save ECNL when they lost 70 of the best clubs People...this is not debatable. It's just not. Argue what you want. |
When do you think the Boys DA will be tiered? I have heard speculation that this may happen but I am not aware there is any official statement or discussion on this. Do you have more info? |
One kid playing in the middle of NJ chooses PDA and plays in the ECNL and another chooses Penn Fusion and pays in the GDA. They both will do fine and the earth will continue to spin. |
There is little data to support it because they generally do not play each other, by design. You know this. However, at U16 and older, ECNL is the stronger league, and college recruiting bears this out. At U13 certainly GDA is the better league. In the middle ages U13, U14, it is variable depending on location and circumstances. These are generalizations of course, YMMV in your local area. |
Nothing specific other that it looks like it is close to happening. |
Too bad they don't play each other more regularly -- if they did, it would be very exciting for college coaches to come watch! Top DA vs top ECNL...that would be awesome! |
They can meet in tournaments that follow gda rules. |
Your post may be accurate if we are talking about the year that is about to close out. Every year, ECNL gets weaker...just look at the clubs entering it in the DMV area. Next year, in more than half the age groups, the GDA will dominate the ECNL. In 2 more years, there won't be any qualifiers to the statement that GDA has, by far, the lion's share of the best players in the country. If you are are interested in knowing what games the scouts are attending, just ask around. GDA already has the advantage in that area as well and it will only continue to trend rapidly in that direction. These are the facts whether people like them or not. ECNL, both on boys and girls side, is a great league, it is just second tier to DA. |
No such thing as U13 GDA...until next year...so...there goes that argument |
Agreed! And since all the BDAs in VA are pay to play, the distinction is moot anyways. Plus, some GDAS are funded. LA Galaxy is free; Portland Thors is greatly subsidized. Plus, when people bring that up, then you are saying that there is nothing wrong with GDA, except the cost. Which by the way, ecnls are NOT cheap. |

Is the boys ECNL a true alternative? Is is competitive like the BDA? Yes, it is, and congrats to BRYC for being all in without nypocrisy or hesitation. |
I don't care what league they play in, any kid that plays for a fully funded team is fortunate. The travel costs for these type of leagues are killers. |
Put cost aside
I stop listening when a club says DA is good for boys but bad for girls I hope these coward journalist start asking real questions |
Good. No one listens to the blah blah blah and they should not. Figure out what works for your kid and play the game. Do you listen when Nike says their cleats are great and Adidas are for losers? Focus on how the clubs within striking distance and pick the best fit for your kid's talent, your budget, the coaching style, etc. You won't find a perfect match since it does not exist, but that is ok. |
NP here who would love to know if you or anyone else finds out something more concrete. I've heard this rumor as well, and it will be a big change with a lot of ripple effects when it happens. I'd be fine with it in our area if DC United weren't moving it's training facilities out to Loudoun (though of course this will be a positive for some), and if the change means that DC United will end up with more funding for their academy. They have a lot of good people on board, but the coach and staff turnover the last few years has been brutal. |
