FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

We are just asking to keep the neighborhood cohesive from elementary all the way through high and not create a 3 way split.

Crossfields problem is that there is a huge divide over what it wants and the only way tomake people happy is to split the school. Why should the families that are ok with a 30 minute commute to the HS get to dictate to the families that want to attend Skyview with a far shorter commute? Both groups have their arguments and are sizeable, did you really think that this school board was going to pick a winner and a loser in that battle? Nope. You get a split feeder instead. Enjoy.

It kept Fox Mill at South Lakes and sent Crossfield to Skyview. Made sense logistically and objectively. But, then, RIO stepped in.
If there were a good reason to keep Crossfield at Oakton I could understand it. But, I have not see ONE good reason.

It's more logical to load Skyview from the Loudoun County line in towards 286 than leave Fox Mill complete at South Lakes. Old Option B now has a west of 286 piece of Dogwood. Mystery disappearances from this stuff were the likely political lack of movement out of Chantilly to Westfield. Old options had Westfield at 85% plus.

Oakton? Far more complex than the above loading of Skyview, again made more simple by Loudoun being another jurisdiction. Langley/Madison/Herndon/South Lakes/Oakton/Marshall Westbriar Island could end up in a similar process as Herndon pyramid elementary schools are 50% complete on capacity expansion.

Except that Fox Mill doesn't want to stay at SLHS. The presentation even called out that the FMES families were overwhelmingly positive about moving to Skyview. Why should they take the heat from the Crossfield parents for a decision that is going to be unpopular when they have a group happily volunteering?

Crossfield created their own mess, something that people have been pointing out since this all started.

They are in fact hypocrites. How often do they pay lip service to "equity"? There's nothing equitable about taking hush money to move a neighborhood the consultants (and everyone else) thinks it makes sense to move.

I doubt it is hush money. Just politics. Still wrong.

Politicians do favors in the hopes of getting donations. Who is doing a favor for who in that neighborhood? Can we get that Fairfax Times reporter on this?

They are moving schools were fewer people vote so they can keep their positions.

If they don’t have the guts to move some higher-income Chantilly families into Westfield, they can forget ever trying to move any part of even wealthier Langley into Herndon. They are basically triaging the schools and saying it’s fine to have 1400 empty seats at two high schools we’ve written off as long as we aren’t dealing with noisy parents.

Especially when its so obvious on the map that it makes sense to move some areas. There is literally a carve out for some areas on the map. That's completely ridiculous.
And the fact that we all know the consultants suggested it because it makes so much sense and watched the special favor literally play out on our screens.

Yeah but just weeks ago we were all saying how the consultants are from out of town and don’t know this area. And how Reid shouldn’t have hired them. But now suddenly we believe they made the best decision but Reid somehow effed it up?

The second round of maps make a lot more sense than the last round.

To have real time evidence of corruption and cronyism (map being changed after release) is a new twist.

Very few Western zone areas have a cohesive neighborhood pyramid with no splits.

Your neighbors causes this mess with their RIO drama. Of course SB moved Fox Mill. People always want to be moved to a better school. Less drama for them but split feeders for you.

Yep: it wasn't fixing an administrative mistake because the footprint of Walney Oaks being moved was not corrected through all the slides and the address bar. Consultants advised that area to be moved and someone high up at FCPS pulled strings in real time while we watched.

The Walney group was at one of the first boundary meetings for Skyview and interacted with Dr. Reid. I can't remember the exact dialogue, but Reid said something like "Why are you here? We fixed you" and the person replied with something like "Yeah and he want to make sure it stays that way"

2700 at Oakton and 2000 at Westfield is completely asinine.

We've moved on from the "drafty drafts" to the "shafty shafts."

Thanks, Reid. You absolutely suck at your job.

That's because the Superintendent and the School Board members are a bunch of asses.

and growing!

Westfield once held 3200+ students and will be down to 2080. Crazy
Anonymous
Centreville and Westfield are the same numbers in both scenarios.
