Boundary Review Meetings

The guy who had his daughter read her script about why Langley was better than Herndon was pure cringe. Then the wife took over and had her spiel too to make sure she covered the "I paid for a good school" schtick. It was diabolical when Reid was like, "what was that, we couldn't hear you" after the woman's emotionally charged outburst about how terrible Herndon is.

Tuning some of these shrill nut jobs out is the only sensible response under the circumstances. Kudos to Reid for not engaging with them.

The way they go on about how much they sacrificed to live in the Langley district, as if no one else makes sacrifices to live elsewhere and is living it up because they don’t care as much about their kids’ education, is just revolting.

Chantilly 2900

Oakton 2600

Potential #s
Chantilly 2400 (-500)
Westfield 2400 (-400)
Oakton 2400 (-200)
Centreville 2100 (-100)
KAA +1200

Where are the rest coming from or are these Western schools going to shrink by a large number?
Projections don’t show a huge influx of HS students in .
the near future, correct?

If they move Coates, Floris, and McNair from Westfield to KAA, it’s at least -1000 students.

South Lakes will be impacted for sure. Some of Floris kids go to South Lakes and it’s almost certain they will go to KAA. Potentially Fox Mill as well.

And, to the poster a few pages back about the developers and Langley. That is absolutely true--we had a neighbor that moved to one of those developments on the Herndon side of RT 7 because it was zoned for Langley. That was their reason for moving there. Honestly, I was a little insulted--and I didn't even have a kid in school yet.

It wasn't just random remarks by SB members. The SB adopted revisions to a policy on boundary changes that suggested transportation times were going to be a big focus in the boundary review, and then Reid's consultants ignored the longest commutes in the county.

We all know why. Look at the composition of the BRAC. We know those people had a lot of influence. Look at the guy who got his neighborhood moved to Oakton. Reid admitted he was the reason that change was made.

I wonder about BRAC and that tiny part of Fairfax High that is in Scenario 4 for Chantilly. It is tiny. Make no sense.

Is that neighborhood City of Fairfax?

If they aren't, that is why they are being moved.

Fairfax City is its own entity.

I don't think this is accurate. I used to live at an address between Fairfax County Parkway and Fair Oaks Mall, and it was definitely not City of Fairfax. That area is still zoned to Fairfax.

It’s ironically revolting to call a minority student who speaks at a FCPS meeting revolting. Stop mocking kids.

I agree — and I’m a Langley parent! That woman… it was embarrassing.

Look, I get it — property values matter, but there are expensive homes all over. Furthermore, we bought in the Langley pyramid because of Langley’s reputation, and it has been fantastic for my kids. That said, I have friends all over the county whose kids had equally fantastic experiences at their schools. I would be disappointed if we were rezoned, only because I love Langley’s chorus program — but I would welcome the opportunity for my kids to attend a more diverse school than Langley. I also may be a bit biased: I (a white person) was a minority in my school (due to white flight) and remain very close to my classmates to this day.

Please pupil place. I’m not even joking - should be pretty easy for you to do so.

Being a minority isn’t some sort of shield from being criticized for being racist. Though I would save the criticism for the adults who put the kid up to it.

Old enough to remember the pearl clutching from posters last year when the EXACT same thing happened but the student was pro-boundary change.

Care to circle the square, or do your rules only apply for others and not yourself?

I generally do not like mocking students, in particular minority students, but it sounds like that’s not your stance. Do better, or at least be less of a hypocrite.

It is correct.

Other neighborhoods can be zoned to Fairfax High School if there is space.

But if there is rezoning out of Fairfax High School, only non City of Fairfax homes can get rezoned out.

City of Fairfax homes are guaranteed a spot at Fairfax High School.

Fairfax High School belongs to City of Fairfax, with financial and some administrative ties to FCPS.

If needed, your old neighborhood can be resoned out of Fairfax HS, while City of Fairfax homes cannot.

Fairfax HS is owned by City of Fairfax. They have a contract with FCPS to run the daily operations of the school.

Per an anonymous FairFACTS Matters poster tonight:

"This is the setup to move Forestville to Herndon. First overcrowd Langley, then the shuffle for the new high school will leave Herndon with lots of space, then next year they will cry 'transportation efficiency' [and move kids from Langley to Herndon]." Funny

Paranoia. The new school has no effect on Herndon.
Of course it does. It removes the possibility that Herndon south of the toll road would be redistricted to fill the 500 empty seats at Herndon HS.

That also spawned the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations letters on the KAA site as a magnet and the Oct 2025 letter against implementing AAP in every middle school with no transfers. That means Herndon MS AAP continues flowing to Hughes likely bumping the IB diploma candidate count, mega Carson Franklin feed, Rocky Run no substantive base school boundary changes so it can accommodate Liberty and Stone AAP. Research who is in FCFCA, current and past officers. Gerry Connelly got his start in that organization.

Surely AAP at every middle school will pass.

That one is a no brainer.

With current FCPS leadership and School Board? That is a big ask.

AAP students from Hughes have been attending SLHS for a while now, the IB numbers bump has not happened. Fifty kids completed the IB diploma last year. The Hughes students can transfer for IB or for Japanese, which they can take at Hughes and continue at SLHS but not HHS.
