Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Texas, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana (and probably more) has a rule in their rule book stating, if any coach on a particular sport staff gets a HC job at another member school, no athlete on the previous roster can participate for a year on the HC new school staff. No exceptions or exemptions. Black and White.

Not a rule in Florida anymore, the state legislature has gutted the FHSAA's transfer rules in recent years. Coaches still get busted for recruiting occasionally but transfers are a free for all.

There is a dad claiming he didn't transfer his kids for athletic reasons. He had a son who played at freedom HS for Overton and another son who played at a different public PWC HS.
Last April, he tranferred both sons from their respective, different high schools and enrolled them both at Hayfield. What an odd thing to do!

Who sends their sons to two different public high schools, then pulls them both out of their respective high schools in APRIL and transfers them to a completely different school system? Totally not making decisions based on academics thats for sure.

Someone who moved? I’m a PWC parent, and it’s not at all unusual for kids in the same family to go to different high schools here. I’d actually say that at least half the families I know do.
So if the family was living in pwc, then a parent got a job transfer to fairfax and they wanted to live closer to the new job, it makes perfect sense.

Huh? I grew up in PWC and that wasn't normal at all, except kids in IB.

We're zoned for Edison but my daughter goes to Hayfield and my son goes to WestPo. Edison is IB. We did an AP transfer for my daughter for AP. By the time we went to do the same thing for my son, WestPo was open so we had no choice. Hayfield was not an option. We didn't do a sibling transfer because he is a freshman and she is a senior. Once she leaves, he would not be able to stay because you have to apply each year and have a reason. Our reason wouldn't apply once she graduates. I know at least 2 other families who have kids split between the same schools.

Did they run track? Last Spring, a Hayfield kid won VHSL 200 meter dash championship and school was runner up in Boys 4 x 400 Meter Relay. In the current court filings, Hayfield apologizes for VHSL eligibility violation for track.

You can cross-check the names of those kids to know they have been at Hayfield every season. The 200 runner was not new, nor was anyone on the 4X400.

yes, it was a track violation.

No. There was an admitted track violation but the kid who won the 200 and the 4X400 runners were all regular Hayfield kids. A cross check of past rosters would show you that.

If they get the injunction then yes, they will in fact play. The majority in the DMV-wide NSMT poll (from this morning) said they want Hayfield in the playoffs.

Is it possible for VHSL to kick out a county from their association? For FCPS to be told, you’re out? Because it’s now clear that FCPS doesn’t want to play by VHSL rules or follow it’s decisions, so isn’t natural result that FCPS should no longer be eligible (all schools) to participate in the VHSL events — so no more runs at state, etc.?

Fairfax probably accounts for at least 40% of VHSL participation amongst all sports. VHSL wouldn’t last 2 years without FCPS. Just as VHSL can probably remove FCPS, Virginia schools can remove VHSL.

The reality is VHSL needs to focus there effort on updating their rule book to be less ambiguous and dated.

Instead VHSL wants to keep rules such as prolysterizing and ‘spirit of the game’ so that they can pick and chose when to enforce and who to apply it to.

I think if TX and other states as hard-core football and other sports states- where kids training from super little to be able to get on right rec and club teams and then be on best HS teams…. Sounds like VHSL rules written for when that was not case in VA, but may are now with college players getting money it is best to write the rules with hyper-competitive in mind.

She is a disgrace and FCPS’s continued decline is guaranteed as long as she is superintendent.

Yep

Yep

If she is a disgrace, why did the school board enthusiastically extend her contract, saying moreover that “Reid has elevated FCPS to new heights.”

Yeah, the big issue in VHSL is coaches running non-school teams and using them as recruiting vehicles for their high school team.

Unfortunately, nobody told these kids that they are not allowed to transfer to Hayfield for just athletic reasons

They were probably listening to the VHSL director.

“Winning breeds winning,” Haun said. “Parents and kids sometimes want to change to change schools because school A is winning more than school B, and the parents are willing to move their residence so their kid can transfer.

“There is nothing illegal about that and every state deals with the same thing. We can’t tell parents where they can move to.”

So with his own words or were they twisted, so it looks like he’s trying to pick and choose when to impose sanctions against VHSL member schools.

The same Mr.Haun who recommended sanctions vs Hayfield. Now make this make sense pls
