Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Are the pro-Hayfield posts on here all the same poster? If not, there are multiple middle school boys texting here.

All I know is that Michelle Reid and FCPS have ignored the needs of our school for years on end with no plan, but she somehow makes time to promote senseless litigation with the VHSL to defend a bunch of cheaters.

She is a disgrace and FCPS’s continued decline is guaranteed as long as she is superintendent.

Based off the time stamps and the lack of grammar in the posts, they are either children posting during the school day who desperately need to be in English class and not on their phones on a mommy board, or the adult coaches who don't have the proficiency in written language to work in education.

These posts are a terrible reflection of the language arts program in PWC schools.

There is a dad claiming he didn't transfer his kids for athletic reasons. He had a son who played at freedom HS for Overton and another son who played at a different public PWC HS.
Last April, he tranferred both sons from their respective, different high schools and enrolled them both at Hayfield. What an odd thing to do!

That statement right there is why FFX Times should never be trusted. The 2 kids are not brothers or related in any way, but I’m guessing they saw the same last name and decided to add some excitement to the story. Dangerous reporting resulting in dangerous rhetoric.

Now that would be a lot more plausible than the poster coming on here claiming that it's totally normal to want to participate in a specialty program in PWC and that's why these kids didn't go to the same school before.

How do you personally know these kids aren' related?

I think two kids with the same last name, both transferring from the same, other county and who both happen to be football stars... to Hayfield in April 2024----relatives is the only reasonable explanation.

The suit for damages says 14 kids transferred in spring of 2024. They definitely aren't all related. But I'm sure everyone can think of another reason why they would want to all move around the same time.

Haha... I guess the logic is something like this:

In April of 2024, my son and 13 of his teammates decided to move to FCPS, and specifically the Hayfield boundaries to further our studies and focus on our education. Whether or not their previous head coach at Freedom recently took a job at Hayfield as well, please realize this is not just for football but for educational reasons. We have no concern for athletics, but it was a crazy thing when we found out that his old ball coach also went to Hayfield. Again, athletics had no bearing on this case.

Additionally, to prove we didn't move for athletic reasons, I am suing VHSL for not letting my son play football in the playoffs, b/c the undue stress of this not being able to play in the playoffs has hampered is educational experience... again, because that is why we transferred. Not athletics!

The lawsuit even says that they lost potential of getting a scholarship. This is all about football! This is nothing to do with their race. I called BS.

If you think the language arts program in FCPS schools is better, though...

Coming from the Pacific NW, I do know there was a lot of optimism around her appointment after the nationwide search. I can’t speak to her legacy on academics, but I think Reid is just following the advice of the FCPS lawyers here (re Hayfield). Whether or not she personally supports the team in their pursuit of the state title, I have no idea.

I highly doubt kids would be posting on a site for parents. And students no longer have phones during the school day, or during class at a minimum.

Kids have their phones. And use them. Banned or not. Which is why I get texts from my kids during the school day! Haha

Do you read the tweens and teens forum? Full of tweens who think random trolling comments are hilarious.

And some kid posted a bunch of s-k-i-b-i-d-i toilet stuff in elementary schoolers yesterday too.

Is it possible for VHSL to kick out a county from their association? For FCPS to be told, you’re out? Because it’s now clear that FCPS doesn’t want to play by VHSL rules or follow it’s decisions, so isn’t natural result that FCPS should no longer be eligible (all schools) to participate in the VHSL events — so no more runs at state, etc.?

Fairfax probably accounts for at least 40% of VHSL participation amongst all sports. VHSL wouldn’t last 2 years without FCPS. Just as VHSL can probably remove FCPS, Virginia schools can remove VHSL.

The reality is VHSL needs to focus there effort on updating their rule book to be less ambiguous and dated.

Texas, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana (and probably more) has a rule in their rule book stating, if any coach on a particular sport staff gets a HC job at another member school, no athlete on the previous roster can participate for a year on the HC new school staff. No exceptions or exemptions. Black and White.

Instead VHSL wants to keep rules such as prolysterizing and ‘spirit of the game’ so that they can pick and chose when to enforce and who to apply it to.

Reid is not helpless that she can only follow advice of lawyers that she hired. She’s not mandated to follow their advice. If she does follow legal advice, she chooses to do so and it’s wrong to dismiss her authority as superintendent to suggest the lawyers have any decision-making authority that overrides her own decisions. For good or bad for her, it all falls on her.

Above seems a right answer no matter Hayfield outcome.

+1. There are always rumors swirling about programs and schools and proselytizing. This wouldn't shut it down, but other states also have rules about HCs club's and how many can be from one specific school that would address some of those rumors as well.
