PPP was a national emergency. I don't agree with Trump furnishing the funds, but you do see a difference between that and your kid taking out student loans and then deciding they don't want to pay them back, don't you?

Trump put put the loans with no oversight or safeguards in place and as a result, a lot of it went to people and companies that didn't need it, just a total grift and giveaway

Why a child tax credit? You wanted the kid, now pay for them instead of demanding other tax payers do with a steeper and steeper progressive tax system. It's time the tax system is flattened so more people pay.

US tax system is all about incentives. The US needs more kids and the way to do that is to make it more affordable. If you want to take it away. take away all the loopholes and benefits, not just the ones for the poor

I have nothing against the black kid getting into a prestigious school as long as their test scores aren't weighted differently for race. If you have to weight and play games to boost the score of someone to displace a better student, then we have problems.

When everyone starts off in the same place, then they can be evaluated evenly. If you think a kid who grew up in a million dollar household with tutors and a top notch high school education doesn't have advantages over someone else who didn't have those same benefits and advantages, then you don't get it. How about imposing a 100% estate tax so wealth is not passed on. Let every kid get the same start in life, the same education, the same background and then let the cream rise. But you just assume that because someone like Trump started on 3rd base, he is somehow better than others.

I hope you understand the other side's positions. Yes, I hope you understand other people's positions and perspectives

BTW, we have shortages of insulin and other medications right now. That's what edicts from Uncle Sam in his ivory towers causes - market dislocations followed by shortages of goods and services. Compare how long it takes to get an appointment with the specialist in the medical field today versus several years ago. What you are complaining about has been the case for years, which is why the ACA was needed. The GOP still refuses to help fix the ACA or come up with a different solution

"Trump put put the loans with no oversight or safeguards in place and as a result, a lot of it went to people and companies that didn't need it, just a total grift and giveaway"

A democrat congress had nothing to do with that? I seem to remember Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts being a large part of that discussion. How did you conveniently forget that?

"When everyone starts off in the same place, then they can be evaluated evenly. "

No one starts off in the same place regardless of color. Your telling me this is a recent problem? This wasn't a problem 20 or 30 years ago, No, the recent problem is you having the government fund more and more higher education without oversight which means the Educational Institutions take that as a signal to jack up tuition and fees higher and higher to sop up all that "free" gubmint money. Stop doing that! You're raising the cost of tuition faster that most of the other parts of the economy (except health care, which is the same story). Your view on free easy money is what's making so many things unaffordable.

No, we're not imposing a wealth tax. The mere fact you mention it means you have no regard for private property rights. Very unamerican of you.

The ACA didn't fix anything. All it did was compound the problem by taking the feedback signals of the market out of the economy and turning ovver one-sixth of the U.S. economy to the government ot highly regulate. Now, our health care is among THE MOST expensive in the world and we're following YOUR plan on health care. You see, the more you liberals do, the worse things get.

Then the GOP should have passed their own immigration reform bill that Biden said he would sign.

If it were a serious problem, it would have been dealt with in a serious manner.

Trump HAD an effective border policy — until YOUR regime tore it down ON DAY ONE.

It was effective because he was breaking the law and then COVID happened and it dropped to virtually zero.

If it were a serious issue, the GOP would have passed legislation to deal with it. On several occasions since Reagan was in office, there was such an opportunity and each time, the GOP trashed it. So it is hard to take the whining seriously.

It is a serious issue, the GOP is demanding greater enforcement, and Biden’s own words on day one when he signed multiple relaxations on immigration proved where he stood on this issue. Kamala’s border failures as VP add to her political weakness on this.

Why didn’t the GOP solve this when they had a majority and could’ve? I’m sick of the dishonesty. Both republicans and democrats do not want to solve the issues they bicker about, because then they wouldn’t have anything to bicker about to appeal to voters that this will be the “last election”

Name a time the Dems scuttled an immigration bill.

(you can't because it hasn't happened)

DP. Um, you do realize that Democrats *never* come up with bills to tighten the border, right? To limit the amount of illegal immigrants entering the U.S.? But look, here's a bill that Joe and Kamala came up with that would have given 11 million illegal immigrants an eight-yr. path to citizenship. Can't imagine why this never passed!

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats proposed a major immigration overhaul Thursday that would offer an eight-year pathway to citizenship to the estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally.

The major immigration overhaul legislation would offer one of the fastest pathways to citizenship of any proposed measure in recent years, but it would do so without offering any enhanced border security, which past immigration negotiations have used as a way to win Republican votes. Without enhanced security, it faces tough odds in a closely divided Congress.

Give me a goddamn break. Does Harris have anything to offer other than being black and a female?

Good grief, she grew up her entire life in a supremely privileged household well above the mean for income. She has nothing in common with so many average Americans. Just a truly lousy candidate. You're gonna have to offer something of substance other than her race and what is between her legs, Dems.

Yes, she will continue the successful foundation that Biden has placed:

Strong rebound from COVID
Consequential infrastructure, manufacturing and "green' legislation passed
Re-established stature on the global stage.

The presidency is more than just the person, and Biden-Harris has been the most consequential since FDR.

I just can't... good grief.

+1. The presidency is not more than a person. We could have a parliamentarian system where the party chooses the leader. We do not. The founding fathers specifically chose not to do this.

So the president doesn't have a few thousand appointees, a cabinet etc?

Methinks you don't understand how the government works.

We elect an individual person. A coalition does not select their figurehead. So - no - we do not elect an administration. The one - individual - president appoints and can single-handedly fire those thousands of appointees.

And you probably believe JD Vance grew up in a log cabin in Appalachia, right? When in reality he grew up in an upper middle class suburban ohio household and went to Ohio State and Yale Law. Hardly a "man of the people"

I know little of JD Vance, nor what you too are arguing about, but I looked it up and he's from, and grew up in, Middletown, Ohio, which is staggeringly close to Cincinatti to be some Appalachian sob story. Now looking it up and...it's basically a suburb only 40 minutes from downtown Cincy. What Appalachian man are you talking about?

And his mother was a nurse who stole prescription meds from her patients.

And if you watch the first few minutes of Hillbilly Elegy, you’ll see how badly JD Vance was bullied by the local kids when he traveled from suburban Ohio to spend summers with his Grandma in Kentucky. But compromise has been a 4-letter word for the past ten or twenty years. So here we are. Nowhere.

False. The majority work "on the books" and receive paychecks. In 2016 it was estimated that in Virginia undocumented workers paid between $200M and $304M in sales, excise, property, and income taxes. Estimated $13B same year in contributions to Social Security Trust Fund. Maybe your landscape worker is paid under the table but many work in places like meat and food processing and are on payroll. And they can get a tax ID number for withholding purposes. In 2019, according to the IRS, more than 2.5 million tax returns were filed using ITINs, accounting for nearly $6 billion in taxes.

Of course, Trump has always courted the low information voters. A published study in 2021, "Cognitive Sophistication, Religion, and the Trump Vote" (you can actually download free from Wiley" included a 10 point vocabulary test. 73% of the people who didn't get a single test question right were Trump voters. Each question answered correctly correlated to a 14% DROP in the likelihood of voting for Trump.

Has it never occurred to you to wonder why Trump said "I love the poorly educated"? They will believe anything apparently.

So, what were your SAT vocab scores?

So let's do some simple math. You claim they paid $6B using ITNs.

DHS estimates there are about 11-12 million undocumented people living here. Let's be VERY generous and assume half of those are are kids.

So that leaves 6 million undocumented people paying $6B in so called taxes.

Big whoop, that equals only a $1000 paid by every undocumented individual here illegally who is working and supposedly paying tax.

They are clearly not paying their fair share of income tax,.which is the primary bulk of taxation for any legal citizen. Consumptive taxes mean jack squat.

I pay sales taxes too when I go travel on holiday in Europe or when I got study abroad for a year. Does that entitle me access to all of their social benefits, their schools, and healthcare just because I pay some VAT? Lol, hell no, because I'm not a citizen and I don't pay fill income taxes.

Lol, I love this crappy argument Dems always use. If you actually calculated the numbers, it clearly shows undocumented don't pay anywhere near their fair share of income tax. The rest of the taxes are superfluous, because people who travel here on vacation also pay those sales taxes, yet we wouldn't allow them to enroll their kids in our schools.

So, what was your SAT math score?

Probably below 450 I'm guessing.

Mic drop.

Not that many of us get to spend so much time in Europe, prepping for the SAT on vacation, and learning about "VAT" without having to google it.

Qualifications don’t matter and I actually disagree that MO isn’t qualified . She’s more qualified than Kamala . Her push for added sugar to be added on nutrition labels was hugely influential but it’s not noted by anyone in media for some reason . I will always appreciate her for that. In my eyes, that was more revolutionary than what Barack did with Obamacare especially for communities where diabetes runs rampant .

The younger generation jokingly spite MO for that ridiculous decision, and it caused a lot of waste.

We’re in very trying times if people can’t recognize that a past Senator and current VP has more qualification than some presidents wife.

It didn’t cause waste. Child obesity went down 50% during the Obama admin and no one noticed. The Fox News screams about MO trying to force healthy food on kids was absolutely ridiculous . Ketchup being considered a vegetable per Reagan administration is absolutely ridiculous . Ketchup used on fries or a burger definitely isn’t a vegetable . Clearly. the healthy options worked to reduce child obesity . Even McDonald’s offers apples and juice instead of soda for their happy meals. I am sure anyone who’s gone keto or paleo as a lifestyle will appreciate the added sugar nutrition fact labels that quietly started thanks to MO. Such lifestyles would be impossible under a Republican administration and FDA. She saved lives , and healthcare dollars spent and started some of the country’s parents on the health conscious track . Good for her .

DP. Sure... all of that is true. And none of it qualifies her to run for president.
