Putin was also able to make a deal with Lukashenko. Being able to invade from Belarus, which is only a 2-hour drive from Kyiv, changed his calculation.

Putin thought this would be easy - that the Ukrainians would quickly capitulate as soon as the Russians were on Kyiv's doorstep, and he could install his puppet.

Where have you been! He wants to be a dictator! Dictator of America. Wants to overthrow free elections. Also, when he praised Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, he said we should do the same to Mexico. Go look at Putin’s own statements where he said this was about shoring up Russia against further NATO expansion, and where he threatened Finland and Sweden with invasion if they tried to join NATO.

We should be helping to support them in Poland and Romania for now. Coming here can come later if Putin succeeds. I think he will not succeed.
