Question to DA/ECNL parents, do you talk to coach about new season's role and playing time before accepting an offer?
I am not sure whether this is necessary. I feel if the player works hard and plays well he/she will get the right role and playing time he/she deserves. Also I had some bad experience with coach's promise. Appreciate if you can share your thoughts. |
I think its fine to ask about anticipated roster size, but playing time depends on performance at this level. |
I think this is always appropriate to ask with the understanding that things change during the season. If a kid is new to a team it is good to ask but the coach has limited exposure to the kid so it is hard to answer honestly. |
I agree with everyone else who thinks the recent Loudoun v. FCV arguments are ridiculous and tedious, but I am not clear why you keep referring to this as a "Mom's board". It seems that you are intending to demean the site, and women as well, with the suggestion that no intelligent grown-up men would be posting here. Is that right? It's truly obnoxious/sexist, and makes no sense given that this is the most active platform for youth soccer discussions in the area. |
My opinion Know your kids true ability to be able to perform at a specific level. Be prepared to play high pressure fast paced soccer against kids who have been playing for some time. You cant succeed at the highest level with a bad touch, lack of vision, LOW WORK RATE, and technical ability. If your kid is lacking and ends up on a roster be prepared to receive less playing time. If your kids is lacking any of those things, maybe a step down is what is needed for a few years until those attributes are acquired. Get away from wanting to be on the best team. The best team is stacked. Playing time is a premium. You cant get better if you are not playing. With that said...Parents take your blinders off....winning every game is not necessarily an indication of development. Is your kid better at the end of the season or not? That is your true indicator. If your coach doesn't play your kid a lot then your coach has an opinion about your kid. The only way to change that opinion is to get better. A phone call, in the long run, is just lip service. Some coaches are terrible. Some coaches don't know talent when they see it. Some coaches shouldn't be coaches. At the end, don't let any coach tell you the value of your child. BUT, you must be honest with yourself. Making excuses never made anyone better. |
You'll be aight |
PP here, appreciate all those replies, especially this one. My kid really wants to join but frankly I am a little hesitate. |
Agreed. Gender has nothing to do with all the nonsense being posted, and to suggest otherwise is disgusting. |
^^^ So PC. Puke.
Get off the high horse. Be a grown-up and file a complaint and go find a legal forum. |
Awww. What's wrong. Board did not like your ignorant nonsense? |
Yawn
Arm stretch Sigh What club is picking up the most NEW talent for next year? |
Gotta be Spirit GDA, 04, 03 |
I heard those teams were rumored to have picked up a few. But don't know from where |
so they are going from bad to decent? |
I figure the 04 team could shed as many as 10 (25 down to 15), with perhaps a couple of those playing up. That would leave room for 5 new faces to make a roster of 20. |
