Lebanon / Israel

No they can't. Both the Lebanese state and the Lebanese military are very weak. Hezbollah is effectively a well-armed, Iranian-supported occupying army that has overtaken southern Lebanon. Iran and their allies have wrecked Lebanon. The vast majority of Lebanese - Christian, Sunni, Druze, even many Shi'a - want to see Hezbollah destroyed.

That could be true, but they don't want to be destroyed in the process. I assure you the Lebanese people are terrified.

Israel killed Americans and lie about it. Biden does nothing. Unconditional support of Israel means Israel can use nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and the US will support them.

The state department confirmed the death of a us citizen from Michigan in Lebanon this week. His Family says he was killed in an Israeli air strike.

That’s five American citizens killed by Israel this year. Three in the West Bank, One in Gaza, and now one in Lebanon.

The Lebanese are terrified of another civil war. Hezbollah has been a disaster for Lebanon. On the upside, the other factions and parties are actually beginning to meet to discuss governance in a post-Hezbollah Lebanon. In the meantime, the threat of civil war is a very big reason why the Lebanese Army is staying far away from getting involved with the Israel-Hezbollah fighting.

How does Israel have the right to tell Lebanese citizens to leave their homes? This is just messed up.

Would you prefer Israel not tell them and leave them at risk?

I would prefer Israel not attack a sovereign country. They have not right to do so.

Iran attacked first. And twice. Israel is well within its rights to hit back at Iran.

So far, Israel has shown great restraint and done nothing at all to Iran or it’s citizens.

Negative. Israel attacked first when they attacked a consulate in Damascus...

Do you mean the terrorist pager event?

Only Hezbollah terrorists were injured, but yes - you are correct:

-Iran’s “ambassador” to Lebanon turned out to actually be just a terrorist leader, and not an ambassador at all.

Israel has never really struck Iran. Fact is: Iran struck first and Israel is well within its rights to strike back, under international law.

This. I can also assure you that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a brutal regime that funds terrorism and that the actual good people of Iran do not support their actions. The proper term is Islamic Republic of Iran which is very different from the Iran that was before the revolution.

I see. So you long for the days of the shah? A hereditary ruler? His secret torture prisons, his caviar and gold amid poverty and his bootlicking of the west? Do you understand he was installed after a democratically elected PM was removed? Democracy is not for the brown people, it looks like.

If Lebanon could run public services, there wouldn’t be a hezbolllah. Hezbollah is the second largest employer in Lebanon, did you know that? No, not the fighters. Medical, nurseries, municipal, charities..

Do you know anyone in Lebanon now? I assure you they are terrified. Right now they are terrified of Israel with its unconditional US support bc that is who is killing them and destroying their homes. People with homes still intact are deciding if they should leave their windows open so they aren’t blown out of a bomb lands nearby (due to the pressure this happens) OR do they need to be closed bc Israel is using white phosphorus bombs (mind you, I have no idea if that is true or not but that is what they truly 100% believe as truth). They are terrified. Yes, they do t want another civil war but their primarily and immediate fear is Israel.

To me I just don’t understand how Israel - a country founded by people who experienced such pain, suffering, and loss, can hurt other peoples so badly without remorse or ability to even see how their own actions are causing so much tragedy.

It really shakes my faith in humanity.

And in the long run this just creates more enemies for both Israel and the US.

Yes. This is true. So at my son’s high school there is a kid that wears an IDF sweatshirt. Can you imagine the reaction if a kid comes in with a Hezbollah or Hamas sweatshirt? And both those organizations run schools, mosques, civic society along with their military wings. Whereas what does IDF do other than killing Muslims.

Sure. But it's also important to remember that Hezbollah fired 180 rockets into Israel today alone. 10s of thousands of Israelis have fled their homes too. If it wasn't for the Iron Dome, Israel would be a desolate wasteland by now with all the rockets that Hezbollah has fired since October 8th last year, the day after the massacres. It's not a one-sided war.

Why doesn’t Mexico have an armed resistance to the U.S.? Why doesn’t Spain have an armed resistance to France? Because Mexico and Spain aren’t being invaded and/or bombed to smithereeens every 20 years or so by those countries, that’s why.

Israel has invaded and bombed Lebanon in:
1978.
1982.
2006.
2024.

At least this time the U.S. immediately called for a cease fire, instead of waiting a month like they did in 2006 to see if Israel could bomb its way to peace and security. It didn’t work in 2006 and it won’t work now. And the U.S. needs to stop giving Israel cover. As we all know, when a friend is toxic and dragging you down, it’s not really a friendship.

Iranians get free college and have a great education system. No school shootings, no massive debt for med school.

What people want to erase from Iran is religious culture and that’s not going to change.

Overall, day to day Iran is stable and fine and not an impoverished failed state at the brink.

Now if we invade , it will ruin the state and cause a serious migration crisis just like we did in Libya.

We need to leave people’s cultures alone and stop doing things because Israel tells us to. If Israel wants to invade Iran, let them invade and let them use their own soldiers and their own money. If they need weapons from the US they should pay. If Iran needs weapons from the US, they should pay as well.

Let the best man win.

The overbias the Western Christian world has for Israel based on the Bible is dumb. If Muslims are terrorists based on religion , what do we call the Judeo Christian war on the Middle East if it’s not religious terrorism?

The more we poke the bear, the broker we will get, more migrations and more wars and deficits.

Nobody is a winner in this situation

Iran also executes women for going outside without being dressed the way the regime wants.

So does Israel. Look how many people they have killed in Gaza. Israel is standing on mass graves and genocide not the high ground.

No, Israel does not execute women for not wearing head coverings.

Yes they kill them to spread terror as part of Israel occupation. Let’s remember Germany treated blonde German women very well!

But one side is inflicting way more death, disfigurement, homelessness, et etc than the other. It may not be one sided but it is sure lopsided.

And I would also point out that Hezbollah stated many times it would stop firing at Israel if there is a ceasefire in Gaza - which, until recently, Israel has been dragging its feet on.

Today there is an article in the NYT that now says Sinwar isn’t interested in a ceasefire any more. I’m not sure how the NYT is so confident in that info but at this point with all the loss Gaza has suffered I wouldn’t blame him for feeling like there is a need to fight to the death.

It is all so tragic. I actually firmly support Israel’s right to exist (but within U.N. recognized borders and with reparations to those they have harmed), but I think they are making a huge misstake with all this violence. The pain they are inflicting on all of their neighbors is just stirring up more anger and hatred and creating more enemies in the long term.

Israel has a very young army. Ground fighting in Lebanon will end in heavy losses for them. This might finally force Bibi out.
