Exactly how will people get there, given the location and lack of ability to expand any roads?

So given people won't attend, because it is so hard to get to, attendance (thus revenues from ticket sales) and concessions sales (due to lower attendance) do not meet the rosy projections that underpin the bonding for this project.

Guess who picks up the tab? The teams? No. Ted Leonsis? No. Glenn Youngkin? No.

It will be the taxpayers of Alexandria.

Correct. And the taxpayers of Alexandria want and support this. Just like they wanted and supported the abolishment of single family zoning. And they are going to get what they want.

Alexandria taxpayers want to be saddled with a 3 billion dollar liability?

No. Alexandria taxpayers definitely do not want to be saddled with $3b tax liability. But. It will be all Virginia taxpayers saddled with $3b.

So that will be the end of the Democrats holding the legislature.

Also. The cost will not stop at the bonds. The wastewater bills are going to explode. It astonishes me that people never understand why some riverfront property with views of dc has never been developed.

Why would the democrats support this? It is a billionaire initiative underpinning Youngkin's legacy as governor. Why would they give this to Youngkin?

The Democratic party is the party of the rich.

If that is the case, why are all the American Oligarchs republicans?

Yes. Because their guy Wilson and the rest of city council told them everything is going to be great. No one will lose an election over this. Alexandria voters do exactly what they are told to do and believe by a guy who has a low level political patronage job at Amtrak.

I just don't see the voters of Virginia going along with such an awful deal, but if they do, then they get what they deserve.

Sadly this has not been put to the voters of Virginia.

It’s a disaster in the making. It will be very expensive for all Virginians.

It's cute that you think metro will be around in four years.

You don't really believe Metro will not be operating in four years, do you?

It might be operating but it will be under new ownership and mostly for tourists.

New ownership? Who will own Metro?

Probably a private transportation company that is willing to operate metro as the tourist attraction it has become. Who runs the HOT, mostly toll, lanes?

There's really nothing going on that would make me think Metro is going to be sold to private ownership within four years, which would be pretty unprecedented in the U.S. -- is there any regional rail system that's privately owned?

Condos and apartment buildings with first floor retail will bring more tax revenue and more vibrant streetscape than this proposal.

I live in Alexandria and this is so much fun to watch! I don't care if it comes or not.

The naysayers on this thread largely comprise a small group of petulant Maryland residents who think the world revolves around Bethesda.

Maybe a few NIMBYs in Virginia, too.

There are DC naysayers who want them to stay here! But besides that, I do have concerns about whether the Metro platform can be remodeled to fit sports crowds. We would metro in and the current platform design would be a death trap.

Walking to a caps game would be great. Commuting home when the caps have a home game would be miserable. One of those occurs more frequently than the other

This area definitely needs some decent restaurants.

What jobs do you imagine it will bring?

As I understand it, the plans call for a new convention center, performance / concert venue, luxury hotel, some retail, and an array of restaurants, which I imagine would add hundreds of jobs, if not several thousand jobs, but most probably wouldn’t be high paying jobs.

Are there 20,000 of you who will fill the arena every event for the Caps, Wizards and other attractions? if not, you better get your neighbors on board for the 5 figure annual investment to help make sure there are supporters in the stands.
