How are these thousands of people going to get to work? |
Sounds like fun! It will suck for the rest of us who don’t live in walking distance. |
No, it won't. Because none of us are going to make the trek. |
Hoverboard! |
They'll walk from their affordable housing units in Del Ray. |
You really need to check the definition of NIMBY. I see so many Alexandrians using it incorrectly and then thinking they are insulting someone. Maybe don't check it, it's more fun for me to see it and laugh. Del Ray really could use some decent restaurants. And I noticed today that there is plenty of retail space available. Lot's of vacant storefronts. Why? Such a sad vanilla little area that's become overrun with conformity. The Del Ray version of the McMansion? the modern farmhouse! |
How many of those people do you think will be able to afford to live anywhere near the arena? |
On the bus lines that metro has already or will soon cut |
I suspect the development will include one or more below market rate apartment buildings. All that low income housing will give the local schools a shot in the arm, I’m sure. |
Literally, the only fans benefiting from this move are Alex residents. The rest of us, whether elsewhere in NoVa, DC or MD, lose out. Very simple. |
that is fine since they will end up paying for the whole thing anyhow |
Nah. ACPS would just continue to provide a terrible education to more kids. |

per WBJ
On Tuesday, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser affirmed that the $500 million offer to upgrade Capital One Arena is contingent on Monumental Sports & Entertainment keeping the Capitals and Wizards at the arena. If the teams move to Virginia, the $500 million will be put toward reusing the land in other ways, which could be up to and including a full redevelopment. Bowser opposes moving the Mystics out of Congress Heights and into Chinatown. |
It will be all Virginians that will have to pay. Virginia will be the guarantor of the bond. |
Yes, I keep saying posters say that Alexandria taxpayers will be screwed, but Alexandria is only committing $50-60 million to the project. The other $2B is being guaranteed not by Alexandria taxpayers, but by State of Virginia taxpayers. |
