What do you think of the chevy chase club?

Just wondering what you think of the chevy chase club?

rich, snotty republicans belong there. it's nice, though, so if you are one of them, join!

What is it? Country club? Do they have any members in their 30s or early 40s? I can't imagine people in this age group belonging to a country club.

Just curious--where do the rich, snotty Democrats belong?

OP, what are asking? Considering joining? I have been a member there since I was in my thirties and it is a beautiful club with lots to offer. But it also has some ups and downs. I joined for my kids. PS: Pool has been awesome this weekend.

They also belong to Chevy Chase. As long as they aren't Jewish or black of course.

I'm the PP. Of course, I was being a bit facetious with the question because there's no doubt wealthy Dems also join country clubs; but I'm surprised that DC area clubs won't admit Jewish or AA members. That's really shocking to me.

I think they probably do admit them at this point but I doubt there are many there. As a kid I sometimes went there with my cousins and was always afraid that I would be kicked out because I am half Jewish (obviously the half not related to my cousins). It was actually quite uncomfortable.

Alan Greenspan belongs to CC Club (he is Jewish).

Did you only go half way into the pool?

I feel sure I'm one of the older ones on DCUM, so I can well remember all those exclusionary "rules." Truly terrible, and I hate that you had to ever have that fear. Some of my long-time friends are Jewish, and they've shared similar feelings.

I simply don't understand how any of these places are still in business. There is a wealth of fantastic public golf courses and public pools all over the region. I am not much of a golfer, but I would think it would be incredibly boring to play the same course over and over.

For the money paid in initiation fees and and annual requirements, it just seems like a waste. And this isn't including the vestige tokenism of diversity membership.

Plenty of families from my child's school go there and, for the most part, they are new money, Republican, social climbers. They are also exclusionary and snobby. It used to bother me, but I don't care anymore because I've realized that they're all a bunch of posers.

I think.....white, republican, alcoholic.

At one point, Jews were not even allowed to step foot in there...let alone belong to the club.

I hear you, but for so many it's about being able to say that you are a member...
