What do you think of the chevy chase club?

For the money paid in initiation fees and and annual requirements, it just seems like a waste. And this isn't including the vestige tokenism of diversity membership.

I don't know anything about Chevy Chase Club, but lots of people join country clubs so they can be guaranteed a course that's not too crowded and is nicely maintained, a not overcrowded pool with good amenities, and nice tennis and dining facilities. Sure, you can put these things together by going to public courses, making lots of early tee times and going to the local pool club and restaurant and tennis courts. But I think people like the "one stop shop" aspect of country clubs.

On the other hand, some people are just snobs. LOL.

What are the downs?

the families I know at Chevy are all under 40, Republican and the "society"/benefit/party set.
to the previous poster wondering why someone would join for the golf and swimming when their are good public courses/pool in this area---you've missed the point entirely.
These young families join to socialize. To social climb with the right Spring Valley/Bethesda new-moneyed set.

Is congressional plagued by same history and issues?

I'm a third generation Columbia country club member and I'm embarrassed to tell ppl I go there. Such rude snobs have never made any friends there bc it's exclusive private school basically and I was public. Nasty members with matching attitudes. Only good thing is that as a club it's very nice with the amenities offered.

And I've always heard Columbia is more laid back and friendly than Chevy Chase. The people I know belonging to both clubs seem to indicate that this is true- CC having more of the social climbing type and Columbia members being the type who join the club to use swim/golf/play tennis rather than for bragging rights.

I don't think so. I think that most of the members are old families in which grandparents, parents and then their young adult children belong. I don't belong but I used to live in a neighborhood in CC where many of the young families joined because that's the club their extended families belonged. They also took advantage of the junior discount. Don't know if they offer that anymore. I don't CCCC is unique in this way. I know of others that belong to Congressional and Kenwood for the same reasons.

I meant that they aren't new money or posers. They are Republican and exclusionary, however.

How long is the wait these days?

Entitled old white people.

I don't know any Republicans that belong to CCCC, all Democrats albeit fairly moderate. I have family members as well as friends that belong to CCCC and I have often been ridiculed as the only Republican in the bunch.

They're all moderates. Some are old money, some are not.
