Well, if there aren't enough people actually interested in immersion (and not just location), then maybe we don't need a second program. |
Fair enough, and time will tell. My guess is that the interest to support two locations ultimately won’t be there in sufficient numbers from the Spanish speaking community. But interest should be solid enough from English speaking parents looking to “escape” from their neighborhood schools in S Arlington. Down the road a few years, I’m compelled to say, I highly doubt that the ATS site will support an immersion program. |
“I refuse to vote for any board member who voted for this proposal, and any candidates they endorse!!” |
Wouldn’t it be ironic if the no-move people turned out to be right that the move will kill the immersion program, but the reason is the toxic environment they’ve created, and not because of actual location? |
It would - but they will never admit they were any part of the cause at all. Soley APS' intentional efforts to destroy the progra via admissions policy change and moving the program. |
I doubt that will be the reason. The demand just won’t be there. Why in the world does this county need two Spanish immersion schools?? |
It’s very popular with English speakers who want their kids to be bilingual. They blame APS for not enticing enough Spanish speakers to the schools to accommodate more ES in a 50:50 ratio. There’s even a guy on AEM who advocates for ALL APS schools to be immersion, and says that it should be forced to people who don’t want it, because “they don’t understand what’s best for themselves.” The elephant in the room is that Spanish speakers can become bilingual just by attending their neighborhood schools. |
Sheesh, still slamming Key, ATS, and McKinley boosters. Talk about sore winners. |
As long as the boosters are still publicly threatening retaliation they’re fair game. |
GAFL. You won. You hate dual language immersion. 700+ key families are all the worst in Arlington. You love to watch SB meetings. You compare yourselves to everyone around you. Life is short, go try to celebrate already. |
You poor thing. |
Perhaps meditate on whether all the vitriol, hyperbole, and hysteria over school programs moving a few miles away is good for your health. |
Thank you doctor! |
Seriously. So much hate. |
| Invest in a meditation app or spend some quality time with your kids rather than stewing in all this anger and hate. Or ... you’re a 14 year old poster who’s figured out that parents around here can go down an endless rabbit hole of bickering on DCUM, in which case ... carry on. It could go forever. Consider yourself warned. |
